★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a hidden gem! A weekend at this place halfway along the Cross Creek cycling track loop should be on the bucket list of every Wellington. The south coast really is just phenomenal, and this is your bolthole for exploration.
It's a nice woolshed with a big open area, loads of beds and warm toasty fire. But the reason we came was for the private trail network that curves through the themed native forests! It really is like background art in a movie or a video game - you'll pass through a beech forest, then head up a punga-lined avenue, or wend through a pine forest. Each looks just as different as the next, and the trails here really are just something else. What's more, there are stunning views of Lake Onoke afforded and the whole experience just has to be done to be believed.
I thoroughly recommend this place to anyone doing the Cross Creek rail trail loop, but also reckon it's the perfect getaway from which Wellingtonians interested in cycling/running can explore the south coast.
Extremely well done job here, cannot wait to see how it looks in another few years.
