★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fab little movie theatre but not great on a cold day. Absolutely freezing in there. Make sure you wrap up warm.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Worst experience ever!!!!!!! I was shut out of the movie theatre with my grandkids left inside. I answered a very important ph call in the foyer as had a very ill friend and had only planned on leaving the kids for a few minutes to take the call and get straight back to kids but the rude arogant owner made me step outside onto the footpath and locked the doors until the movies finished!!
I was in absolute shock that he would leave me outside and kids still in the movies.
So rude!!!!!!!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a beautiful rural cinema. We watched Moana here which was a very nice experience at very reasonable prices. The chairs are comfortable and the whole place has a vintage feel of old NZ

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I spent a few lovely days in Whangamata last week, and on a whim decided to go and see "The Mule" and experience the ambience and charm of the local cinema. I would describe the customer service that prevails to be in the same league as a stay in "Fawlty Towers" when one find Basil in a foul obstreperous mood. I can only assume the male attendant has some form of Antisocial Personality Disorder or some other condition (no disrespect intended). The service is not to be overestimated with the attendant seemingly finding a morbid fascination with Tourette's like outbursts (Coprolalia) of offensive language in front of the ever-hopeful waiting throng. I must admit, my wife and I did attempt to access the inner sanctum of the cinema prior to the incumbent viewers exiting, this terrible transgression enraged the attendant into a state of incandescent fury. It appears to me the Whangamata locals just accept it or have normalised this behaviour as one sardonically commented "I see his customer service hasn't improved". The attendant must have subsequently felt some small pang of remorse as his manner abruptly changed to one of subdued contrition when we subsequently ordered ice creams prior to viewing the main feature. This was carried out with both parties eying each other with thinly disguised mistrust and contempt. Still, I have learnt my lesson and won't "buck the system" again, I have no wish to feel like a naughty schoolboy again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I don't mind getting in to the groove at the beach and not expecting a modern cinema but this cinema and the old male owner was the worst experience I have ever had in a long time - No soap in the toilets, what looked like junk and old bedding piled in the front row - if you like sitting in a cold box sniffing moth balls and being treated like dog excrement stuck to the bottom of someone's shoe - go here !!! Disgraceful Depraved and if the Health Department paid a visit this decrepit building would be condemned - no money spent on it since the 1800's - DON"T GO !!! This man is sorely lacking in customer service. It was so bad it was funny

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Reading other reviews I see I’m not the first to encounter the rude miserable man who is the owner! I took 3 kids and also brought some food and drink at the cinema. I also had some emergency juice and snacks for my diabetic child. He told me I couldn’t take these in So I tried to explain why I had them to which he rudely said they were not a hospital. I replied by trying to explain a low in a diabetic can be fatal to which he replied he didn’t care! And all in front of my 3 children - what a disgusting man! On the way out I complained to the lady who I assume is the owner too and she didn’t believe me!! Maybe it’s she is sick of the complaints of his rudeness or she thinks his behaviour is acceptable. Either way I would’nt recommend supporting this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A quirky old school Whangamata cinema... could even hear the odd jaffa rolling down the aisle. Cinema features a big screen and sound quality was OK too. Worth checking out.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Drove 45 minutes to take the kids to the cinema for the holidays. Phoned in advance to be told they don't take bookings. Stood in the queue in the rain for 25 minutes to be told the movie we wanted to see was sold out. Very disappointing and a waste of time. The old man working there was rude and turned his back on us and just walked away. Try to support the closest local cinema but clearly a waste of time.
