Very cool mini canyon, unfortunately it's hard to get a clear view of the canyon through the foliage

Went here today with high expectations, especially about the canyon. Did the waterfall loop track which passes the Whiati-Nui-a-Toi canyon (15 mins from carpark) and the Whirinaki waterfall (1,5hr trail on West side of river). Unfortunately both highlights were partly hidden from the view because of plants. You can only see the waterfall from above. Still, the walk is easy and very beautiful through dense forest and passes some pretty streams and smaller falls. There are picnic tables and basic toilets at the car park and at the waterfall.

I did the Waterfall Loop Track and this was one of the nicest bush walks I've done. Huge trees, lovely waterfalls and well maintained. Lots of trails to do in this area. The Te Whaiti Nui a Toi canyon is unique though, absolutely breathtaking; but watch your step, climbing around there is treacherous! The road in could use some maintenance too.
