★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome place to be for any outdoor activity like hunting fishing and horse riding the kids absolutely loved the place ....wake up in the morning listening to all the native birds surrounding the area and also the pigeons putting on a spectacular show of there flying skills

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you love a good forest then you have to go to the Whirinaki Forest it is an amazing place it's like you go back in time and are able to experience the world like it should be. Peaceful and breathtaking amongst the beautiful ancient trees truly awesome!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went here today with high expectations, especially about the canyon. Did the waterfall loop track which passes the Whiati-Nui-a-Toi canyon (15 mins from carpark) and the Whirinaki waterfall (1,5hr trail on West side of river). Unfortunately both highlights were partly hidden from the view because of plants. You can only see the waterfall from above. Still, the walk is easy and very beautiful through dense forest and passes some pretty streams and smaller falls. There are picnic tables and basic toilets at the car park and at the waterfall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I did the Waterfall Loop Track and this was one of the nicest bush walks I've done. Huge trees, lovely waterfalls and well maintained. Lots of trails to do in this area. The Te Whaiti Nui a Toi canyon is unique though, absolutely breathtaking; but watch your step, climbing around there is treacherous!
The road in could use some maintenance too.
