★ ★ ★ ★ ★ At the mouth of the shortest river in new Zealand Young Nick's bronze statue is quite charming and the waves swirl up the concrete angle jutting out into the bay as young Nick points out to sea having sighted the headland... And yesterday we watched the replica sailing ship Endeavour as she sailed- well motored- up to dock at the logging port, where 250 years ago the real Endeavour landed with young Nick on board...back then it was a beach of course... Kaiti beach as it is now is a few hundred metres past the logging port.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice place to catch the sunset in Gisborne from down low. The statue of Young Nick is located along the walkway along the beach, with information about the history. There is plenty of parking a bit further down and right behind Top 10 Waikinae Beach. So a must visit if you are staying there.
