★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I normally rate cafes a 4 but this cafe, I'd rate a 3. Firstly, this is because the lady with the blonde hair was quite rude when taking our orders, but the woman who served us our drinks was quite welcoming. Secondly, my main reason for the 3 star rating would be because there were so, so, so many flies everywhere, which I think was the reason for the bad smell I experienced. Because of this, I was very put off my food. The portion size of the food was quite good, but the taste was mediocre. I would say the food was a bit expensive. I normally take pictures of the ice chocolates I order in cafes, but the ice chocolate they served me wasn't anything interesting. However, it was really nice how you could walk through the cafe into a little collectibles shop, with good items for sale.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lots has closed in Tirau since I last stopped here, so it was lovely to see this old favourite still offering a range of yummy dishes and being well patronized. Lovely gift shop at the front, too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stopped on the way through yesterday. I have stopped here on numerous occasions in the past but the establishment has obviously changed hands. The staff were not very welcoming. The cook was very rude and when my order arrived it was just put onto the table beside me - very poor service.
The seafood chowder had hard pieces of squid in it which could not be eaten.
The coffee was only just warm.
I would not go there again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely morning tea in eclectic setting. Coffees and hot choc were excellent. Savoury muffin very tasty and enough for 3. Worth a stop when in Tirau.
