Also, didnt enjoy my courtesy drive back to airport due to incompetent male driver who needs to re-set his license!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rang apex Napier at 5:13 was happy if they were closed to leave message with details for team to call me back.
Wanted a quote as it states online to ring.
Allister answered.
Was told to "ring back tomorrow we are are closed". No problem but WHY ANSWER MY CALL IF YOU WON'T DEAL WITH MY QUERY.
I then asked what time they were open tomorrow. Was told "8am but don't ring then! Ring after 8:30!" He sounded very unhappy with me. As I then asked what time they closed tomorrow. He said "5" as if I should already know.
If I might be a future customer why be so rude. Why answer the phone if you don't want to deal with a customer. Also assuming you are a retailer and looking to sell your services why not ask my details which would have taken 2 minutes or give me a verbal estimate if you work there you should know your products and pricing.
We wanted a vehicle for four full days and we're willing to pay upto $275 per day. But after that call not with that team.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I'm divided as to whether to give 5 or 1 stars.
We had a problem with our hire car as we were approaching Napier (wiper blade flew off while in use), brought it into the Napier office where we were seen to immediately and the car was assessed straight away. As it couldn't be fixed immediately we were given a replacement (a newer model which was very nice) and were on the road again in no time. Everything was effortless, quick, with efficient friendly staff. Would have been definitely 5 stars, if that was my only interaction with this office.
It does seem that service is very dependent on which staff member though, as I spoke with a very unpleasant man on the phone later. I called to enquire about a charge for refuelling - we'd been advised there wouldn't be a surcharge for refuelling because of the situation, just fuel costs, but based off the fuel we'd bought previously (and the prepaid fuel costs I asked about on hiring) it looked like we had been charged a surcharge. The man was argumentative and kept repeating at me "you have to pay for the fuel", "we told you you'd have to pay for your fuel", etc. without attempting an explanation. Eventually he appeared to lose his temper and practically shouted down the phone about all the things they'd done to help us and everything we'd done wrong, finishing with "and we refuelled it and didn't even charge a surcharge!" - finally giving me the answer I'd been seeking for the past 5 minutes. Unfortunately it seems that professionalism and good service is the exception not the norm with Apex, as we didn't have a good experience with their Christchurch office either.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you use Apex take out the $0 excess as they make you pay excess regardless of who is at fault (even if the other driver is fully insured and you have all their details). They should be more upfront about this i.e. not just the fine print. Most people would not think that would be a policy.
