About Aroy Thai Eatery - Lower Hutt
From humble beginnings of a family opening a Thai restaurant in Palmerston North in 1998, to opening the first AROY restaurant in 2008, we have been serving New Zealanders fresh and affordable Thai cuisine for decades. Our authentic recipes have been handed down for generations, and form the essence of our style of cuisine.
When I moved to Wellington as a student in 2005, I noticed there was a shortage of good, authentic Thai food outlets – and those that did exist were on the expensive side. Back in the 1990s, many Thai restaurants in New Zealand were fine-dining experiences with a price point to match. With limited Asian ingredients readily available, many of these restaurants would simply leave a lot of traditional Thai dishes off their menus. My mother and grandmother would always insist on making those traditional meals available by tweaking them as best they could with the ingredients available.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went to the store today quarter to 9. It says 9 closing. So we entered the store for a take away. The other staff said they can still do take away and then the one from the kitchen said the kitchen is already closed. Miscommunication at its finest and the no apologies. They both looked like they've been disturbed. Very disappointing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great Experience. Clean Restaurant. Food to table was very quick. Great place to go for anyone wanting some quick yummy thai. Ordered the Spring rolls, Roti with Peanut sauce to start. Mains - Crispy Chicken with Garlic rice and the Chilli Chicken + Fried egg. Delicious. #ThaiFood

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food was great! Super quick service. We ordered the duck with in house peanut sauce on rice and chicken Pad Thai. They were delicious, the duck dish was the stand out. We order the roti with peanut sauce for a starter. Both were yum but the peanut sauce to roti ratio was a bit out.

Very tidy and couldn't go wrong, this is a must-try place!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely Open plan. Simple menu. Pad Thai Chicken and Duck were lovely, very tasty and plentiful. Prawn Spring Rolls and Chicken on skewer starters delicious. Would definately recommend a visit. They didn't hang around cooking the food either. From first order to food on the table -15 minutes. Go on, give it a try -sit in or take away. It's all yummy!
