Aroy Thai Eatery - Porirua - Porirua City Centre
About Aroy Thai Eatery - Porirua
From humble beginnings of a family opening a Thai restaurant in Palmerston North in 1998, to opening the first AROY restaurant in 2008, we have been serving New Zealanders fresh and affordable Thai cuisine for decades. Our authentic recipes have been handed down for generations, and form the essence of our style of cuisine.
When I moved to Wellington as a student in 2005, I noticed there was a shortage of good, authentic Thai food outlets – and those that did exist were on the expensive side. Back in the 1990s, many Thai restaurants in New Zealand were fine-dining experiences with a price point to match. With limited Asian ingredients readily available, many of these restaurants would simply leave a lot of traditional Thai dishes off their menus. My mother and grandmother would always insist on making those traditional meals available by tweaking them as best they could with the ingredients available.

β β β β β First time here, service and food absolutely sensational. Took 5mins for our 3 dishes and roti to come out, food was very flavourful. Didn't take long for the restaurant to get full only now do I understand why (it's only been open for an hour) Very happy customers, highly recommended

β β β β β Lovely clean space and good service. We had a couple of yummy entrΓ©es and then wonton soup..delicious flavors although filling in wonton tasted a bit like dense sausage. Pad thai pork was a bit overcooked but still yummy. We will come back to try more dishes and bring our friends. Good job Aroy!

β β β β β Tried to order online for pick up twice. Once they didnβt even have my order and I waited for an hour until I finally got some food. The second time the food was ready 30 minutes later than the collection time. Beef massaman is awful - really sweet and very thin chewy pieces of beef. Not coming back which is a shame because the other Aroys are really good

β β β β β It is very busy. They served entrees at same time as main meal. Food is excellent as always but timing of meals are all spread out. For example my partner got his meal about 10min prior to mine would prefer meals all together

β β β β β Very disappointing. I was really looking forward to going to this restaurant. The guy serving looked very disinterested and not friendly at all. The Pad Thai with Prawns had 5 very small prawns at the side - the rest a gooey mush of noodles. I had asked for Hot but mild with not much taste at all.
I ate the prawns and left most of the rest.

β β β β β After reading all the other reviews, either Iβve gone to a completely different restaurant or some people donβt know what they are talking about. Aroy Thai Eatery in Porirua is absolutely brilliant! Itβs clean, modern and well presented. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. We ordered the roti along with the pad thai and the crispy pork. Each dish was delicious and we couldnβt pick a favourite as each had its own unique taste. I have no hesitations recommending Aroy and will definitely be back again!
