About Aroy Thai Eatery Upper Hutt
From humble beginnings of a family opening a Thai restaurant in Palmerston North in 1998, to opening the first AROY restaurant in 2008, we have been serving New Zealanders fresh and affordable Thai cuisine for decades. Our authentic recipes have been handed down for generations, and form the essence of our style of cuisine.
When I moved to Wellington as a student in 2005, I noticed there was a shortage of good, authentic Thai food outlets – and those that did exist were on the expensive side. Back in the 1990s, many Thai restaurants in New Zealand were fine-dining experiences with a price point to match. With limited Asian ingredients readily available, many of these restaurants would simply leave a lot of traditional Thai dishes off their menus. My mother and grandmother would always insist on making those traditional meals available by tweaking them as best they could with the ingredients available.

β β β β β Asked for no peanuts in my fried chicken soup as I am highly allergic, request was either forgotten or ignored as I had a reaction. When we called they informed me there was indeed peanuts present in the dish. I wouldn't recommend eating here as they don't take food safety seriously at all.

β β β β β By far the worst Thai meal Iβve had in my entire life. Could not eat it and returned it to the kitchen. Oily, rubbish food. (Fish with basil & veg)
Friend ordered Pad Thai, this was ok.

β β β β β My partner got ill from the Tom yum....my Pad Thai tasted like it was 3 days old, had no flavour apart from that of old used oil. Very very oily, overcooked, gluggy and just not worth eating!!
It's not hard to make decent food, but this is just bad in every aspect!

β β β β β We were a group of 7 adults and 2 kids and visited this place on boxing day (observed). Looked like this eatery is already a hit amongst locals as almost all the tables were full.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. Loved their chicken skewers and pad thai. They also have vegan options.
