About Aroy Thai Eatery - Upper Hutt
From humble beginnings of a family opening a Thai restaurant in Palmerston North in 1998, to opening the first AROY restaurant in 2008, we have been serving New Zealanders fresh and affordable Thai cuisine for decades. Our authentic recipes have been handed down for generations, and form the essence of our style of cuisine.
When I moved to Wellington as a student in 2005, I noticed there was a shortage of good, authentic Thai food outlets – and those that did exist were on the expensive side. Back in the 1990s, many Thai restaurants in New Zealand were fine-dining experiences with a price point to match. With limited Asian ingredients readily available, many of these restaurants would simply leave a lot of traditional Thai dishes off their menus. My mother and grandmother would always insist on making those traditional meals available by tweaking them as best they could with the ingredients available.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Leave the food aside , if you just walk in you are not welcomed. Very unapologetic & angry staff. Hope the front lady learn some manners to treat customer nicely. Take some break guys , if you have been tired or fed up from your work.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ went there for late lunch and were the only customers. Front lady was rude and interacted with angry eyes behind her mask. Responded to our questions with "what?" or "no". When she came over with our order, we asked for some water, to which she turned her back, walked away, pointed to the counter and said "you can get them from over there". Our black pepper beef and crispy pork was served in a mess of soggy overcooked veges and watery gravy. To top it all, there was no hint of any thai flavor to the dishes, more like bad chinese takeaway. this place gives zero bang for your buck. stay away.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good ambience. Good service, fast and warm. Nice table and seating. I found food to be mildly sweetish... Otherwise one of the best Thai restaurant in the town. Try phad Thai and yellow fried noodles, awesome.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Compared to other Thai restaurants in the Wellington region this one is good value, tasty and has great service. Mains are between $12 and $17 and entree $6 to $12...
Note since the above review the restaurant has changed ownership and the main meals and entree's have gone up 20%. A meal for two adults with an entree main and coke each is about $60.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Grabbed a few dishes last night, the beef in the peppered beef and fried noodles was dry and chewy, the chicken red curry should have been vegetarian as there were only 2 pieces of chicken in it. The prawn spring rolls were delicious but half the size in photos.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Aroy has a great online order system that makes it super easy. We can have multiple people place their orders and pay online separately and then it is ready for pickup all at the same time.
Staff are friendly, food was ready on time and myself and two others all enjoyed their meals.

My Laughter Club friends had a farewell dinner for a departing member. We also recorded 1 minutes laughter to mark World Laughter Day after other customers had left. The owner was very patient and kind, as we left pretty late and he had to wait to clean the dining area. Kudos to this kind man!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A delicious meal. The food always comes fast. Vegetables and fresh and well cooked.
Mains come before entree, but the entrees do get there. Service is so fast you so not have time to get hungry.
Meal portions are large.
For 2 entrees, 2 mains, a beer and a wine The total came to just over $70.
Very reasonable for a night out!
