About Art of Dentistry
David McKelvey BDS (credit) Otago, FRACDS
David Graduated from Otago University in 2010. He worked in Wellington on Courtenay Place at Symes de Silva before coming to Art of Dentistry in 2018. He achieved a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2016 in restorative dentistry and periodontics. He maintains an advanced resuscitation certificate.
He aims to provide a high standard of clinical work and care to each of his patients. He uses evidence base to ensure patients are fully informed and have the right to choose the best treatment for their needs. He is good at thinking out of the box and has an interest in surgery and complex restorative options.
David has represented Wellington dentists on the Board of the New Zealand Dental Association since 2015, and was the president of the association’s local branch between 2016 and 2018. David has been a clinical advisor to the Dental Council of New Zealand, and helped to set up the Downtown Community Ministries free dental service in Wellington City. He is also a mentor to new graduate dentists in the region through the dental association’s Mentorship programme.
David lives in Lower Hutt with his wife Lauren, his son Lucas and a black Labrador named Meisie. He likes to build and tinker with computers, run, snowboard, surf and dive when he can get outdoors, and enjoys any sport he can get time to play. Most of the time he just enjoys spending time with his family.

β β β β β I don't generally don't write negative reviews, but I feel it's necessary in this instance to warn people about this dentist. The Dentist, Frank Van Den Borst showed absolutely no interest in my case and failed to notice a loose molar tooth and other tooth damage. He simply referred me to a surgeon, who was surprised to receive my case since he does not deal with the issues I was experiencing.
Frank Van Den Borst of the Art of Dentistry has caused my jaw and tooth pain to be prolonged for many days by his disinterest and lack of attention to detail. My advice is to go to a different dentist.

β β β β β Fabulous and friendly service. I had a toothache and called them early Saturday to see if a dentist is available. They booked me in at 2:30pm even though they close at 2pm and I wasn't a regular patient of theirs. The lady who called me back said that they will take emergency cases. The x-ray did not show anything but Gary, the dentist had an inkling what was causing the pain. He gave me the option to see how it goes within the next few days and we set up another appointment for Thursday. However, my toothache got worse over Sunday. On Monday, I called them to she if I could see a dentist urgently. The earliest they could give me was Tuesday afternoon but they did say they will call me if there was any cancellations. About an hour later, they called me to say that they have managed to get Gary to start his shift earlier so he could see me (his day was to start at 12pm and they have booked me for 11:30am). What great service! Thank you so much to Janet and Shani for accommodating me and also to Gary for having to start work earlier. I totally recommend this dentist and have already moved my daughter's annual check-up to Art of Dentistry.

β β β β β I've been getting my teeth serviced every year by Kelly Reid (dental hygienist) before that maybe 10-15 years apart, I'd see a dentist. Never knew what a dental hygienist was until I got in her chair. I started going about 7 years ago. I got a tooth removed by Frank the owner yesterday and a tooth filled in, it was an easy process that hurt more in my head leading up to it. Very professional and quality service by both of them. I recommend this place highly

β β β β β I don't review often. But I definitely want to give Art of dentistry a great review. Took care of my broken tooth checked and cleaned my teeth. Minimal discomfort involved. Very friendly staff here. Frank the dentist is great!!! Got my teeth sorted on a Sunday and the price was very reasonable too. Highly recommend.

β β β β β I didnβt have a bad experience everyone was lovely but I would recommend getting second opinions. I went in with a really bad toothache and I was told the dentist could pull it out or go to see a specialist which was expensive $5k plus.
I went back to my other dentist in Naenae for a second opinion, because they have all the medical technology they gave my tooth a 3D scan and the dentist was able to save my tooth cost me $600 in the end.
