Ursula Hafliger – Centre Manager

Kia ora, my name is Ursula and love brought me from Switzerland to New Zealand 20 years ago. I have two teenagers Toby and Gina, and Max (11) who is blessed with Down Syndrome. Before I had children I was trained as a Primary and Special Ed. teacher. With that background my vision for Avalon Childcare is to be inclusive of all abilities and cultures.

Tamelia Blackburn – Teacher, Marama Room

Kia Ora, my name is Tamelia. I am a mother of two boys and enjoy spending time with my family. As a teacher I strongly believe in building strong positive relationships with our whΔnau and tamariki to get to know them, their interests, needs and wants. I believe children learn through play and believe in our tamariki leading their own learning. For our tamariki to thrive I believe they should be provided with a safe, positive, nurturing and loving environment to be able to play, explore and experiment at their own pace.

I love children and I find it wonderful and a privilege to be part of their learning journey. My name is Alyssa and I have lived in Hamilton for 6 years with my husband and 3 children. I am currently in my final year of studying for a Bachelor of Teaching (ECE). Through studying ECE previously overseas, working in a variety of centres and raising my own children I have been amazed by children’s development and especially infants. I am excited to join the Avalon Childcare teaching team and to work with the whΔnau here!

Kia ora koutou, my name is Cara and I have been in the Early Childhood profession for nearly 20 years. I have worked with all age groups during this time and can honestly say I continue to love it. I value whanau involvement within the daily curriculum and knowing that their child is loved and cared for in a “home away from home”. I enjoy supporting tamariki to their full potential and to becoming life-long learners with a love for curiosity, who find wonder in all that is around them. I am married and together we have two amazing children, a 17-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter, as well as a couple of “fur babies”. When at home, I enjoy reading, relaxing and spending time with my family.

Kia ora, my name is Emma and I have been teaching for about 20 years now. During this time have developed a huge passion for infants and toddlers, spending most of my years with this age. I am a very family-orientated person and have three children of my own that keep me busy. I believe in the importance of open-ended play and allowing children to take control of their learning, showing confidence in them and their capabilities. I am a strong advocate for respectful care, and being responsive in my practice. I bring love, nurture and laughter into the centre environment so that children can develop healthy attachments that help them thrive in their learning and development. I also enjoy being outside and value the learning the outdoor environment has to offer our children.

They were extremely supportive of a gradual settling in period and our 1 year old is doing fantastically. We feel very grateful to have found Ursula and her centre.

β β β β β This is a really lovely, intimate centre, which our son absolutely loves attending. There's a really good teacher to student ratio and the teachers they have here are great with the kids; experienced, professional, and attentive.
We'd highly recommend this centre to other parents, if they want their child/children to learn in a warm, happy and nurturing environment, surrounded by a really great mix of sweet, good-natured children and caring, well-qualified teachers.

β β β β β I am super apprehensive about childcare centers, so sending my little girl to care so I could go back to work. My little girl was so happy here and the staff did everything they possibly could to sure both her and I were both at ease. It has been a month since we have relocated to a different city, and unfortunately because of our relocation, my daughter was only there a short while. However, she is only 3, and still talks about the staff most days and asks if she can go back there.
We have found it extremely difficult to find a daycare that matches the level of care that Avalon Childcare offers.
Willa and I miss you all, thank you so much for providing such a high level of care and love for littlies....wishing we could have taken you all with us!

β β β β β Avalon Childcare Centre is a neat and pristine centre with incredibly passionate and genuine staff; who are very understanding, flexible and positive.
This is the perfect environment for my bubbly and sociable niece. I never have any concerns because I can see that the teachers are very engaging and have a sincere interest in providing excellent early childhood education.
They make a huge effort to involve the parents and keep them informed about what is happening during the day. The smaller group number, backed by the excellent resources and available space. Makes for a truly wonderful environment for children.
