β β β β β This is really a zero star rating. The worst xperience in NZ so far, being rude to your customers when they show interest in your product is not how you run a business. If you don't want people touching your items for sale, either put up a sign, place your display out of reach or don't display it. Saying 'no touchy' is not polite and a bad use of the English language. The old man needs to clean up his act or he'll just get spiteful people leaving negative reviews..

β β β β β Rude, unfriendly staff. Deserves zero stars but not an option. He wasnβt happy with us touching the rugs and had a go at us for trying a hat on and taking a photo! Instructed us to delete the photo (which we pretended to) as it was βcopyrightβ then he scurried off when we questioned him about such a ridiculous rule. Many other shops selling these items so Iβd recommend avoiding this particular shop.

β β β β β Went to the shop with my friend after breakfast from Arrowtown Bakery & Cafe. I believe we were the first customers who walked in. There was no greeting & no smile. We're looking at some shawls hanging on the stand.
My friend was trying out one of the shawl but found out a bit large for her size. We put it back nicely, suddenly an elderly man came & told us off rudely" if you are not buying, don't touch as I have to sell it to other customers." I saw there's no sign of
"Do not touch" How do you expect someone to pay over $400 per shawl without trying & feeling it?' The shop assistant later told us he was the boss. Hi Boss, for goodness sake, you should retire as you have no customer skill & the right attitude. Retail is not for you as you will chase away lots of customers especially the Asian customers who are willing to pay! By the way, my friend bought a possum & merino hat costs $175 form the shop assistant!

β β β β β Our otherwise great experience of Arrowtown was somewhat ruined by the impolite and blunt tone that we received from a staff member at the Back country wool shop . We had only just entered the shop, when my 10 year old brother asked my Dad to buy him a pair of gloves. My dad immediately agreed because it a cold and windy day and asked my brother to go ahead and try it on. Quite suddenly, the man came around and told us that we were not allowed to touch them unless we were buying them. There was no sign of any politeness or understanding in his tone. He seemed rather annoyed working in a area with overwhelming flow or tourists, where I believe he explains the same to many people through the day. The source of his frustrations are understandable and I have no right to tell him to smile. However, I must bring to his notice that this is most certainly a disgusting and in-efficient approach to his marketing. How do you expect to spend money on something without physical trying it out(the pair of gloves cost $150)? And if needer, why not put up a simple signboard with instructions(many of us do understand English very well)? Additionally, he must understand that his insensitive tone does no good to rope in all the tourists who are willing to spend money. This incident immediately made us walk out of the shop. These features of his behaviour have not only been observed by me, but various other users of Google and TripAdvsior. I would certainly have looked to buy some products on offer, if it were not for his obnoxious and uninviting manner of conduct.
P.S He should either consider retiring or moving to a location where tourists donβt visit.

β β β β β Like others, I was soured on Arrowtown by my experience in this store. While i was browsing and taking photos of a scarf i was considering buying, an elderly man popped out of nowhere and not only demanded that i delete this photo, but insisted on looking at my gallery - "I see more! Delete those pictures of our store!" Made me feel like a shoplifter and I didn't want to go into any other stores on the strip as a result. Lost my custom needless to say. I'll add that there weren't any 'no photography' signs up. No way to run any kind of business, let alone one in a tourist destination where all cultures are present and people want to take memento shots.

β β β β β The store has some high quality goods - mostly overpriced. But I would never shop there again after the rudeness of the owner. Clearly he should not be in retail. He planted himself in front of me while trying to take photos of a product to show my husband with a view to buying. Big mistake!

β β β β β Some lovely stock. Staff quite the opposite. Can't blame tourists as on a Friday, during the 2nd year of Covid, this shop was empty with us the only customers. I was adjusting my face mask as I walked in and I got shouted at by the owner that I wasn't welcome in his shop if I wasn't wearing my mask properly. All but walked straight out again. Will never visit again.

β β β β β 2 years into covid and Iβve never been treated as disrespectful from another human as I did today.
Went in this shop on holiday. The owner asked to see my mask exemption rudely. I advised him it was against the law to ask, but proceeded to get it out, he told me he knew the law and wanted to see it, and it had to be the 2022 mask exemption not the old ones and told me I would need to stay 2 meters away from him.
He is by far the rudest person Iβve ever meet and I was the only one in his shop. He told me to leave his shop immediately, even tho I had an exemption. Being a business owner myself I canβt believe someone would speak to their clients in such a way he spoke to me.
I donβt usually review another business but this man needs to know how he treats people is unacceptable. We seen a man before us leave upset ? so he is obviously treating a lot of people this way. I certainly wouldnβt put a penny in his pocket
