About Beaufords In Totara Park

About Totara Park.

Adjoining the Auckland Botanical Gardens, Totara Park is a 216 hectare reserve serving the wider Auckland region.

Totara Park is a much loved adventure destination for many Aucklanders given its accessability, stunning beauty and wide range of facilities including adventure tracks, bridle trails, mountain biking, tennis courts, an open air swimming pool, and the heritage Beauford House.

Central to Totara Park is the 4km Puhinui Stream Forest Trail. This is a pristine piece of original NZ native forest and one of the only remaining alluvial flat forests that were common in the Auckland area before human settlement.

The well maintained trail winds through many mature tōtara trees, rimu, kahikatea, miro, and mataī, plus 170 other species of native flora including rare trees such as kaikomako.

With many places to enter and exit the forest it's easy to take a short or a long walk alongside streams, through beautiful nikau palm and tree fern groves, and listen to the calls and songs of the many native bird species.

For wedding photography, Totara Park has you spoilt for choice.

Totara Park homestead, formerly known as Totara Lodge, today known as Beaufords. The older, tile-roofed part of the house was built for Mr Arthur Gillies in 1925. The two-storey modernist section was added by Sir James and Lady Jessie Gunson in 1932. The main swimming pool, tennis court, tennis pavilion and other ancillary buildings formed part of the purchase. In 1969 Manukau City Council leased Totara Lodge out as a reception centre. This was initially known as the Totara Park Reception Lounge. The name β€˜Beaufords’ was coined when two later lessees, Graham Beaumont and Dennis Mockford, combined their surnames.

We had an office Christmas party recently and for a place whose bread and butter is hosting events, their hosting skills are 1 star at best. Antipasto is served with no cutlery; wait staff telling off a guest they can't have more beef (would an additional slice hurt???); wait staff zealously taking drink glasses off the table even when some of them were half-full; a bevy of desserts that would have been nice to peck on, vanishing in 30 minutes (didn't we pay for the food and therefore expect it to be there for when we were feeling peckish?). It felt as if the staff couldn't wait for us to leave with one of them saying, yeah, she was going to do this again the next day so she couldn't be bothered to be nice because it was such hard work...NEVER spending hard-earned company money there again

We attended a wedding this month (Dec 20) Thought the venue was gorgeous, lovely staff but the canapes were horrific sorry, I specifically asked if something contains fish or shellfish because of my allergic reaction, got told something was a ham and cheese bread quiche thingi but it had seafood in it, had i actually consumed that, I would have been seriously ill and in hospital. There was a.spinach pastry that unfortunately made a few people gag, I heard great reviews about the mussel fritters though. They closed the bar 1hr early because they did not have enough alcohol, most venues go and get more but apparently that wasn't their job. It got to the stage where we were only allowed to buy 1 drink per customer because of previous wedding guests behaviour (not sure why that was our problem) we were fighting canapes lol overall the canapes were not worth what the poor bride and groom paid!!!!!!!! The venue itself was absolutely stunning!! Such a pity the food was so terrible and the alcohol dried up after 4hrs. I would be keen to see how the buffet food compares, but canapes are frozen mini spring rolls, mini samosa, bread put in muffin trays to make smoked fish mini quiche, mini mussel fritters, pancakes with avo and salmon, mini meat balls, mini pastries, everything was mini lol lucky to get 6 pieces over a space of 4 hours, needless to say everyone moved to alcohol to cover the lack of food. I gave 2 stars because of the beauty of the venue and the lovely staff having tried their best given the amount of restrictions In place I would recommend going back for those reasons alone. Again food was horrific

Had my wedding here on Saturday. Beautiful garden area for ceremony, we loved it. Poor service from John during the day. Canapes were trash, it looked like a kid fried those mini spring rolls which tasted horrible ?. Front table food was trash and not enough food was served, John sold us an awesome dream and couldn’t deliver those promises. Food and reception service isn’t worth the money. I could easily whip up a ham on a bone 100 times better than this place. They served rice which was very dry, you could almost choke a cat with a grain. Mushroom sauce tasted like it was made for hospital patients with no flavour. Roast Beef was very hard, I thought were were being served beef jerky’s. The drink they call tropical punch tasted like cordial mixed with tonic water and it was very sour. Who runs out of alcohol at a place like this?. I do not recommend this place for reception. Also John can be a bit arrogant and sarcastically rude. SMC John ??.

Getting married to the love of my life was the ultimate step, and this place gave that feeling, the touch of perfection. Beautiful to begin with, and wonderful service from the staff, the setting up of our ceremony was the best, and the back up marquee (in case of weather change) is awesome! Preparations at its finest. You made our garden wedding dream, a reality. To John and the team, thank you so much for your never ending support, since choosing you as the destination for our wedding ceremony, you have made that day, one that we will cherish for a life time. Thank you, and hope to see you again. The Betham's ??❀

Good park to have a family picnic. Public toilets available, and play ground for kids to enjoy.
