★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An absolute classic. A must go. The perfect blend of tradition with a hint of adaptation. Good selection of wines and beers. Fish awesome as you would expect. Staff super friendly. I could say more but just go. You won’t regret it. A Kiwiana classic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I just visited this cafe and my experience has been consistent with some of the other reviews here. The blue cod fillets were really nice but the chips were mediocre at best. It was an expensive dinner and I feel that better value could have been had elsewhere. The staff was very friendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place has the best chips! Cooked in beef fat, so nice! Had the blue cod which was beautifully cooked in light fluffy batter (GF option available too). Kids has really decent sized and reasonably priced kids meals. Everyone very happy and satisfied with their meals :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the most expensive takeaway fish and chips I have encountered ($10 for basic fish and small pottle of chips).
The chips were below average (some were even hard inside).
The fish was nice, although pretty small portion.
Staff was nice.
The higher than usual price would be acceptable if the food was nice, unfortunately that was the opposite.
Overall quite disappointing, I would not recommend it for fish and chips.

I chose Blue cod&Gurnard fishes and battered oyster, crumbed scallop.
Good point is they dont sprinkle salt on them not like common F&C T/A shops.
Their tartar sauce was good too!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Walk through the doors of this place and walk back in time! With the retro decor, formica tables and bread and butter served as an entrée, I am a kid back in the 1960s or 70s New Zealand once more. I have only had the fish which always comes in the lightest of batter with a little "kiwi" style salad and chips. Well worth a traditional Friday night visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I'm sorry I really wanted to like this place ? it looks great with the vintage decor, good music and the customer service was great but the food and pricing was a disappointment. This meal and can of drink cost me $39. Even when it arrived and I saw that the bluff oysters were small, I had hopes that it would deliver with some good flavour but there was no flavor. And this is apparently first grade bluff oysters ? and they had no flavor. I ate them because of the price and I didn't want to waste my money

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fabulous fresh fish! The grilled mussels were a stand out and the fresh oysters! The service was incredible despite being short of staff. Will definitely be going back to try the seafood chowder. ?⭐️
