This hostel is really for long-term guests. The rooms smell of mould and, while the common areas are routinely cleaned, it is clear the long-term things (vacuuming, maintenance) is not looked after by the owner.

This is a very small hostel with lots of nice French people, it has definitely charm, the kitchen is a bit small but it works. You will definitely find nice people here to share a beer or two or three ;) staff is very friendly and helpful.

A cozy place, with quite a few longstayers, but that didn't make me feel unwelcome. I talked to a number of them. They're a social bunch and like to hang in the common room. Go talk to them, this was one of the more fun hostels I've stayed in! But they still do respect quietness for people sleeping. The staff were helpful and easy to talk to, hi Alexandra!

The shared space is way too small for the amount of people. The kitchen was always a mess, the fridges were all full with food, we didn't even try to cook there. The rooms didn't seem to be cleaned. WiFi was inexistent. You have to pay 50c for a hot water shower in addition to the bed price. You have lockers in the room.

Great hostel! Fantastic atmosphere and friendly staff. Good place to go if you want to improve your French too. The owner is a real character. Clean, tidy and really good value! The location is great for visiting the CBD and it is also not too busy and loud outside during the night!

My room was ok (private one) but walls were too thin. I heard people talking next door almost whole night so I couldn’t sleep. Hostel was messy and it should be clean better, probably in night or after check-out’s not 9am when everybody wakes up, so u can’t take morning shower cause somebody cleaning the bathrooms. Idea with paying for shower is weird, I know it’s only 50c for 6min but still it can be annoying.

The fact that the room we booked was the last one available at that time in that part of town should have warned us. But we decided to trust the good enough reviews instead of searching for a place elsewhere. A very bad move. While the location is ok and if you can close your eyes on the people drinking beer at 11am in their camper vans parked 2m away from the entrance door as well as the stink, mess and flies in the kitchen - it's a budget accommodation after all and should not prevent you to sleep - it was not possible for us to get past the stink in the (private) bedroom. The mattress, pillows and carpet reeked of stale sweat, despite apparent "fresh" bed linen. We quickly figured that opening the window was not a smart choice since our room was located just above the trash + cigs and weed smoking spot. We got out asap and came back late evening, to quickly figure that we would not sleep much that night since we could follow every single word of the conversation of the 2 ladies next door till late night and that a chaos consisting of doors banging/people shouting started round 7am - the walls obviously being paper thin. We had originally booked for 4 nights and left after 1 since what we came for (sleeping) was obviously not possible. After that experience, we were expecting at least a small refund on the 3 remaining nights. After several chats, calls attempts and emails to Booking.com, the manager agreed to pay 20% of the amount back (not even 1 night), which we felt was a small but at least some kind of commercial gesture. The money never arrived. Never again.

The hostel is providing lockers you just have to bring your own lock. To get in the CBD is 30 min and about 40 min to Mt.Eden. The atmosphere is good you could feel uncomfortable between all the French people. The hostel is clean but looks a bit run-down. You should know that you have to pay 50 cent for a 8 min hot shower. You have to be quiet between 11pm and 9am. + you have good access to the sockets and most beds have curtains so that you get more privacy.
