Camp Elsdon - Elsdon
The Camp specialises in providing self-catering accommodation for group bookings. We have two kitchens fully equipped for group self catering. The Dining Hall is a restored wooden military mess hall and is our larger self catering kitchen/Dining facility. It has a large kitchen and dining hall with fold down tables and a small stage and can seat 80 to 85 people for a meal. It also has a simple outside courtyard with BBQ area, bordered by a small gentle stream and native bush. The kitchen has three ovens, a microwave, commercial toaster, commercial chiller (fridge) and freezer. All pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and utensils are provided, you just need your own dish washing liquid, sponges, scourers, plus any of your own pots and pans you prefer.
For all kitchen/dining facilities, please keep as tidy as you can on departure and dispose your rubbish in the containers supplied.

β β β β β I have a mate who has his bus parked here. Great out of the way spot, with access to some great walking tracks in the surrounding hills. We worth it for the views.

β β β β β Not good. Stayed here for a school event and stayed in a room with probably the worst beds I have ever slept in, they were so bad that I got 2-3 hours sleep every night despite being in bed for around 9 hours. Very run down facilities; vandalism on walls and door of room; as well as being very cold at night. Poor quality kitchen also on site. They have nice miniature ponies out the back so that then makes it good. not.

β β β β β We stayed in a room in the lodge (used for schools) and after camping for a week it was really great to be in doors! Warned that it was very basic so had expectations very low. It was pretty creepy but a funny experience and super cheap, so worth it! (I did feel like I was in The Shining at night). Really nice guy who runs it.
Separate single beds, kind of comfortable, great showers, nice little chill out room.

β β β β β We flew down from Auckland, as a whole group of up to 55-60 people including babies, children, teens til early 30's, mothers, fathers. We were fortunate enough to have found this place that could accommodate the lot of us. Beautiful view, fresh breeze up on the hill side with a stream running through the back of its kitchen facility. Also a trail for people to hike if your feeling adventurous. In the dorms where we stayed, there are 2 beds per room, not too small and no too big just right. But if you are a couple and have kids, ideally it's not for you unless you don't mind being old school and chucking a mattress on the floor while the kids sleep on the beds. Facilities very clean and well maintained. Would recommend to people the are looking for places to accommodate large numbers for gathers. Also a build in BBQ set out back where the smoking area is located behind the kitchen. Some of our family is still there. ?

β β β β β My friends and I needed somewhere quick and cheap to stay the night... We didn't end up really meeting the staff by time we'd got there but we really appreciated how easily they sorted out a quick cabin for us and we really enjoyed meeting some of the people staying there when we used their kitchen for breakfast in the morning. Absolutely awesome! ?
