About Capital Sports Medicine
Hazel joined the Capital Sports Medicine team at the beginning of 2014 after moving up the country from Christchurch where she worked for the previous 5 years at a multi-disciplinary sports medicine clinic. She originates from England and came over to travel and work. She ended up falling in love with the Kiwi land and a Kiwi man so decided to stay.
Hazel has a keen interest in running related injuries. She works for the Wellington Extra Mile Runners as a running coach and physiotherapist providing muscle balance screenings and running gait assessments. She works with a diverse range of runners from complete beginners aiming to run 5km through to experienced runners training for half and full marathons.
Hazel completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2016 and is a member of Physiotherapy/Sports Physiotherapy New Zealand.
Up until a few years ago she was a keen hockey player playing in the premier league, however nowadays she is kept busy with her two little boys. She works closely with the Capital Women’s Football team and was their team physiotherapist in 2019 and 2021. She is also a running coach for Wellington Extra Mile Runners.

β β β β β Very poor with communication. They don't seem to care if a patient going through pain or not. Have wait for few months before they get back to you.

β β β β β I was EXTREMELY disappointed in their services. The only reason I decided to come to this clinic was because it looked reputable however it may have been but not for my particular case(ankle swelling that does not go down). I met with one consultant, who could not help me, and who later referred me to another consultant(which meant I still had to pay 100$ for his time-also because I was Canadian with no NZ medical coverage). A few days later, I met with Melinda Parnell, who barely did anything with me except ask standard questions (same questions the previous consultant asked me). She then advised me that I should wear compression socks & that there was nothing that could be done. I was yet again left to pay another 100$ for nothing. I decided to wait a few months until I returned back to Canada to follow up regarding my swelling. After running various test, turns out that I was actually VERY sick & that it could have possibly been deadly if I had not gotten back home on time. So message to Ms Melinda Parnell, DO YOUR JOB PROPERLY NEXT TIME, it could possibly save a life! I would NOT recommend this clinic to anyone.

β β β β β Julie is absolutely amazing! She gives fantastic advice, and always reminds me of the great progress ive made when im feeling frustrated with the timing it takes to repair and injury. She's practical and insightful and im so glad I was recommended to her by my friend!

β β β β β We had come to CSM with high hopes late last year to treat my daughter's heel pain as they came highly recommended by a family friend in the industry. Sadly, Jake and team were not thorough in running crucial tests to truly understand the underpinning cause of my daughter's heel pain and how this connected and affected her archiles. She was given heel raises to perform which she did diligently - but provided little improvement. Her new physio is so thorough (even called Capital Sports to enquire how they hadn't run certain tests). The thing is my daughter loves netball and aspires to do this professionally and is on the pathway. Unfortunately, she has missed a lot this season because she hasn't been able to perform at her best. We are now finally on the right rehab course with a physician who cares and motivated by my girls dreams.

β β β β β I saw a Registrar and then a specialist after waiting 7 weeks for an appointment. The consult with the registrar was thorough and he expressed several theories as to what was causing my pain. The specialist who I saw for 15 minutes at the end of the consult looked at my foot and did some movement checks which hurt and I feel have set me back weeks. Since this appointment I am back to having daily pain. Really disappointed.
