★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It was absolutely stunning. A very easy walk from the road. We were lucky with the weather it packed in the next day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful and peaceful place. The waterfall isn't very high, and it's tucked away in the middle of nowhere, however it's definitely worth the visit if you are driving pass the region and have some extra time on hand. The walk to it takes about 20 to 30 mins, and it has some gentle climbing, nothing difficult though. The view downstream is also good. You can see all the way to the plain where water flows to.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent place to stop. The last 5-10 minutes drive is on gravel road but not too bad. The walk is really nice, super green, and we walked with two kids in just under 20 minutes one way. The walk is mostly enclosed with trees all around so shelters from the rain to a certain extent. The last part has a slight incline upward and you reach some rocks with spray gusting past. Be very careful as the rocks are slippery.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice drive around from Moana. Stunning scenery, makes you feel dwarfed by immense size of mountains around you.
Turn off at Inchbonnie, follow unsealed road along edge of Lake Brunner.
Park at DOC sign for Carew Creek Falls.
Walk up hill about 40 mins & you come out through bush to falls.
Track was a bit washed out due to heaviest rainfall in 78 yrs!
Great views over vley & falls were magnificent due to rainfall.
Bit awkward to get down rocks for a dip & slippery.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Carew Creek waterfall has all year round flow of water, however in the late spring it is spectacular with winter runoff. Enormous water sculptured granite boulders are ideally suited, for the sun warmed natural seats to relax and take in the views.
I have seen a lot of waterfalls but this one is memorable and definitely worth visiting and will be firmly fixed in my mind forever.
I don't believe in ghosts and thought the sunlight was playing tricks on me but there was a shadow standing in the background. So that led me to find out more about the history...of the place and if any tragedy has occurred here.
I was definitely impressed with the quality of the trees located here in the immediate vicinity - matai and rimu. There is an absolute monster near the car park which must be hundreds of years old. The bush was considered so outstanding that a sawmilling company had the cutting rights were given an equivalent volume to cut elsewhere and this bush became Scenic Reserve.
"Ted and Irene (Renee) Morgan, who owned the farm and rebuilt the Mitchells hotel in 1935, also made a hydro electricity scheme by harnessing the waterfalls. In 1949, their only son George, aged 24, returned from Lincoln College and was easing into managing the hotel when tragedy struck. Its believed he was checking the water race for any debris that could impede flow to the electricity scheme, when he slipped and fell. His body was recovered from a pool at the base of the hundred foot waterfall."
