★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Took us 30 minutes to get up and 20 minutes to get down at a brisk walking pace. Not difficult for people with moderate fitness. Worth a visit with great views of the inlet

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just to start: if you want to know how far until the end: there are 1,128 stair steps.
That said, what a gorgeous hike through the bush!
Plan some extra time if you're going with little ones. It took more like 3 and a half hours up and back.
A nice tidy bathroom at the bottom lot with two camping spaced vans is the beginning of your journey.
Ascend through bush with glimpses through the palms and ferns of the bays. You'll meet your first stairs not to far in.
Tui calls should keep you going through the middle, and the sight of the top should give you the last push past the boardwalk of stairs.
Stay on the trail! Steep sliding drops are all along the entire length.
Enjoy the view with a few snacks before you get blown off the top!
Please note: DOC has helpfully provided a safety cone to warn off climbing to the very top.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After many steps 1000+ and some steep walks, the view up there is absolutely stunning and rewarding. It took us around 2 hrs return. Strongly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Steep climb. Many steep steps all the way. However you get flat space in between. The shady tree canopy makes it less exhausting. 1130 steps one way. There are boulders and beautiful kauri trees. The breathtaking view from the top is well worth it. We had a 6year old climbing comfortably. Safe and suitable for any age group. A must do in Whangarei.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The track took us 30 minutes to get to the top. Some reviews say thatthere is but more than 1000 steps. I lost count of it while climbing. The track is all up, up and up but down, down and down when coming back. When you get to a wooden platform which curves a little bit, just where a tree has fallen down. There is a hidden track that also takes you to a lookout. Look after your kids because there is no barriers. It is worth a look. It only takes a minute to this hidden lookout. Check the track in Google map. You can return back and continue your journey to the top lookout. You will be rewarded with a spectacular view and cool strong breeze. The track is well maintained. I was really puffed out when I reached the top. Lots of stairs and Christmas fat in my body took a toll on me. But I made it. Parking can be challenging.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great views a top. 2 hours total return for average climbers. Very steep climbing and too many Steps built to reach to the top. Lookout point is tiny track on top through wooden platform. Take care as no guard rails. Super steep climb so be prepared. Hiking stick will be helpful.
