★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Magical. That’s the word I would use to sum up this place. The glow worms are gorgeous to look at in the night time, I went at midnight and it’s so easy to get there, perhaps a 1 minute walk from the road where you park up. If you do choose to go please be quiet and try not to leave your phone torch on the whole time it does ruin the experience for other people.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Agree with another reviewer - pretty amazing display of glowworms in the tree canopy that’s much better than the paid glow worm tours elsewhere , albeit less educational. Small parking area available by the highway and entrance to the dell. I went at 1030pm in summer and there was no one- the pitch black walk in can be creepy but within 2 minutes you will be greeted with the magical glow worms. Shine your torch downwards and not up at the glow worms. Switch off your torch at the end and just marvel at the sight. Phone cameras don’t take good shots here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good to tick off a box. Not that far off the path. Make sure you turn you light off if there are alot of people. Give it 3 - 5min for you eyes to adjust. Glad to have seen them but the kids were underwhelmed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visited before sunrise. There were a sprinkling of blue glow worm lights in the end grotto but maybe because it was a full moon it wasn't all lit up with them. Cool that it's close to town and easily accessible so an opportunity for people to see them for free

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just watch out for the name board Glow-Worm Dell. Else you would not find it. Dnt visit or walk on the road to left there as it takes u to a private property as it seemed. Just by the main road. But visit at night only. At the day time, u cnt notice glow worms.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just a short 400m from the highway, and very very close to Hokitika township. The small sign can be easily missed. Visit after dust, and bring a torch to light your way in (but do remember to switch off the light in-order to not scare the glow worms and to see their glow). Not as many glow worms as other more popular places, but given it's free and open 24hrs, it's a 5 ⭐ review!
