About ChoiceKids Childcare Alfriston Road Manurewa
We are committed to follow the aspirations of the New Zealand National ECE Curiculum, Te Whāriki,
“For children to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society”.
Te Whāriki envisages kaiako in early learning settings working in partnership with parents, whānau and community to realise this vision. The expectation is that, in their early years, children will experience a curriculum that empowers them as lifelong learners.
Te Whāriki supports this work by providing a framework of principles and strands. The principles are the foundations of curriculum decision making and a guide for every aspect of pedagogy and practice. The strands are 5 areas of learning and development, where the focus is on supporting children to develop the capabilities they need as confident and competent learners. Each setting takes these principles and strands and, in partnership with parents and whānau, uses them to ‘weave’ a curriculum whāriki that is specifically designed for their children.

I witnessed a teacher assault my Son and when I approached her literally 2 sec after the incident, she denied it, even though my Son was still holding his arm in pain. Centre Manager Hannah Ross was made aware of this straight away, to which she was more concerned about keeping me quiet due to parents arriving for pickup and drop off. Both directors Paul Davys and Peter Brown were made aware of the situation (Peter didn't reply to my email and all Paul said was that he'd "cc'd Daniel in emails") with no further investigation. I was passed on to a Daniel Anderson who has denied claims, denied having video footage, denied civil meeting with support person, denied me an official report (which I was advised by Ministry of Education that I was entitled to a written report from Choice Kids) and denied having the "carer"/ abuser stood down until further investigation had been made (leaving her to still be around and "care" for other children). All in all, this organisation has completely contradicted their statements of prioritising children first and have handled this situation in such a poor manner; forcing my children out of the centre and leaving me to still be chasing avenues of resolving this matter over a year later. No child should have to endure being abused especially at a place specifically organised for child CARE. Again, I recommend you DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE! The elaborate colours, paintings and design looks like somewhere exciting your children may enjoy, BUT once you actually attend, it seems more to compensate not having the proper standard of actual care for your children. It's not worth it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The communication with this centre is the worst between the teachers and themselves and with parents.
I sent my twins and they are always on the go, they had to cut the boys hours multiple times because it was to much for the teachers to handle. They would isolate my boys from group activities.
I caught a staff member pulling on one of my sons hoodies just to pull him back, that is not okay on any level and raised that issue straight away. But the fact that they had someone looking after our babies who reacts like that is not on. What else goes on when parents aren’t around.
They have a tummy bug going through the centre and they don’t think they should let parents know, the owner turned around and blamed me for where I take my kids, like it was my fault my kids got the bug. (It’s covid times, we don’t take our kids anywhere! So that was a load of bull)
I would highly recommend you keep looking for a childcare centre. For the love of your child.

I find the teachers communicate well with me if they have any concerns about my son and they always keep me updated on his learning progress. I love seeing all the learning stories of the different activities and events that choicekids provide for my son. I find all the staff at ChoiceKids super friendly and welcoming.
