When Robert Burnside brought the very first front load truck into Hawke’s Bay in 1986 it was one of only a handful in the Country.
Sanitary Landfills were on the distant horizon and nobody thought too much about where waste went or recycling or reducing their waste output.
When he met Deborah the business had grown into a fleet of vehicles and was the second largest supplier of waste to Landfill in the Bay.
Deborah’s administration and management took the business into the domestic market as well.
In the early 90's her rear load wheeliebin service was one of only two in the Bay.
To complement their waste services they looked to divert methane generating greenwaste out of the landfill for which they were highly commended in the Hawke's Bay Environmental Business Awards. They took this further with their dedicated woodwaste service to Hawke's Bay's builders and manufacturers and diverting that clean wood product to energy. This program saw the Company win the Business Environmental awards in 2007.
The pair have also worked with National operators, initiating clear plastic recycling runs as well as paper and cardboard collections. All cardboard and paper collected by Clean Earth is recycled right here in the Bay. As too is all organic waste collected by Clean Earth ltd.
Today their operation serves Napier and Hastings, they are the preferred suppliers to many of Hawke's Bay's largest businesses and the first choice for National providers looking for a reliable cost effective service for their clients.
Clean Earth can supply and service any configuration of waste and recycling bins, conduct a waste audit and review of your business, serve your home, business or event and because we're here locally, just like you - you'll find us accessible, responsive, reliable and always looking to deliver the most cost effective and environmentally sustainable options to you.

β β β β β TLDR; this business advertises for a service they can't handle with their trucks, then blame you for it
I booked a 6 cubic meters skip bin for a weekend, with the intention to tear up my concrete driveway and fill up the bin with it. Once the truck came to pick up the bin, the driver mentioned that it would be a bit of a job, but nothing out of ordinary. The bin was full but clearly not overflowing - I stuck to the 6cbm load the service was about.
The driver tried to lift up the skip bin with his truck, but couldn't handle the load. I got told that "In 30 years in that business, that's the first time I can't lift up a bin". As I just filled up a concrete bin with .. concrete, I found that hard to believe. But I decided to just be pragmatic, and see what we could do to move forward. He asked to remove some of the concrete out of the bin. I then asked him what we would do with the leftover concrete, and he said he would pick it up later on, which gave me confidence that the situation could be sorted out.
After 20mn of removing concrete out of the bin, the driver tried again, and painfully got the bin on his truck. At this stage, I enquired whether we could get the bits of concrete left on my berm loaded up onto the truck. He drydly said "it's just your business now" in complete contradiction with the previous agreement that that 6 cb meters of concrete would be dealt with as per contract.
I then called the business owner, who, with zero knowledge of the situation, simply accused me of overloading the bin, and then hanged up on me. Apparently, asking her to sort out the situation was just to much to handle.
As a business, you can fail, and it's ok. The bare minimum is to acknowledge it and sort it out. Blaming the customer on your shortcomings, and leave them with an unfulfilled contract is the worst. That's where clean earth left me at.
