★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Triple check gate code and alarm code. Both were incorrectly supplied by Auckland Council. No power points. Gas stove has to be manually lit. But is a top spot and peaceful.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed in the Craw Homestead and some friends camped at the camp ground. Really quiet and relaxing. A lawn for kids to play on. Undercover parking for two cars and plenty more open air parking. A great spot close to Anawhata Beach though for those with toddlers or injuries the beach is only accessible on foot. To do this you'll need to walk half an hour or drive down to the carpark at the end of Anawhata Road then walk half hour down hill (and a longer uphill walk back). Great for trampers. The homestead is lovely with wooden floors and a wide veranda along one side. It is well equipped with a decent kitchen, bathroom with shower, lounge-dining room and three bedrooms. They have crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, kettle. You bring your own bedding, towels and bottled water (or just boil and cool your own drinking water). I'd recommended bringing your own mosquito repellent, toilet paper, lighter for the gas stove, tea towel, torch and hand towel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed in the Craw Homestead. Really nice place. However we struggled to get the oven working which wasn't the end of the trip but make sure you take the basics as its a long drive to then have to turn back to the local shops. Eg toilet paper, salt and pepper, butter, lighter/matches for the stove top and bottled water. Really peaceful stay tho and nice bush walks

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Standard camp site. Was nice and quiet when we were there. Track behind the shelter leads down to a great view of Piha.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Confusing entrance lock. It has three locks . One needs using key which is irrelevant. The other two are code locks. You have to try both of them to enter. Disappointed because the the door was not locked properly by staff. The code council offered is not to lock connected to the chain. Had to contact the council services to resolve it.
Nearby there is not much to access by foot. I took a four year old boy, it is a challenge.
There are some tissue papers on the campground. I collected it and threw to the toilet.
