★ ★ ★ ★ ★ WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Totally ruined our day.
So we were sitting next to the kitchen and we saw that our kumara chips had come out but none of the servers were getting the food. It literally stayed there for 5min (who wants to eat cold soggy chips?) until my Dad pointed at the chips and asked the Asian server with tattoos to give us the chips. The server gave us the chips and said to my dad “Don’t point at the food” in a rude manner and left. My dad was in disbelief and when the server was passing by my dad argued that he pointed at the food because no one was getting it and how can you treat a customer so rudely. But the server said we are doing our best service. Then my dad said how is this your best when the server clearly saw the food but ignored it, the other girl server also seemed to ignore it, the other guy server was playing Rubik’s cube with a child customer on the table behind us. Then the server said it’s “None of our business” and he glared back at us.
My dad was furious but he didn’t argue any further so not to ruin our morning any more.
The kitchen rang the bell many times for the servers but it seemed that 2 servers were nice but didn’t want to work, the asian guy was like angry and super rude - he was like crashing down chairs (even other customers were surprised at the sound) and walking/thumping really aggressively.
The food is good but not anything special. I thought this place would definitely be good because of the ratings but we were extremely disappointed, angry and we had just lost our appetite by the time other food had come out.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very friendly service. Amazing gluten free waffles. Can be a short wait to be seated in peak periods but worth it. Good coffee. Perfect for weekend brunch.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went to dear jervois on the 3th of December for breakfast - I took the eggs Benedict full with bacon and I also had an açai bowl
- service was quick and nice
- we had one meal go back because my partner ordered salmon eggs Benedict but they accidentally gave bacon (but it wasn’t a huge fuss, they took every nice)
I have to say, I was told the eggs Benedict here is exceptional, however to me it was quite flavourless… I still ate it all, but I was more or less looking for the good reviews i had read before I came here
As for the açai bowl - that was sooooo delicious, we really liked it.
The drinks were pretty good too! I had a squeezed apple juice and my partner had a coffee - you’ll see what we ordered in the pictures
Everything we ordered came to $80
Other than that, we were so happy to be back out and about and supporting local cafes. We had a good time

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really disappointed eating there today. Have been multiple times before and the food has been far better. Ordered the vegan tacos for $23 and two tiny tacos came out that were incredibly average. One of the people I was with got the waffles and they looked like they had been cooked and reheated and were incredibly hard. Also ordered the salmon bagel which was tiny and disappointing. Service was great so can’t fault that but very let down by the food.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dear Jervois would easily rate in my top 3 breakfasts in Auckland. After a few runs up the Sentinel stairs our team catch up here on a Friday morning where the DJ complete is a crowd favorite. Great coffee and great service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A cafe that lives up to its popularity! The coffee was good, had a sort of deep flavour to it that I can't quite describe in words. The matcha waffles were also soft and delicious, not too sweet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very popular cafe in herne bay - they now have pet-friendly deck area around the back which is a plus ? - Amazingly presented food and they are very yom! Very good coffee too
