β β β β β There is a short hike to Diamond Lake, which doesnβt allow you to see much. You need to make your way up the stair and switch backs to the view point allowing you a better vantage to view Diamond Lake from above. The view of Lake Wanaka from above is well worth the additional steps. It is a view that canβt help to calm your mind. The Rocky Mountain View is great too, but Iβm not sure it is worth the extra walk in my opinion.

β β β β β A good short walk, about three hours return. Lake is nothing special but nice forest with lots of birdsong. Great views over the mountains and Lake Wanaka. Paths get a little hairy and narrow in places, particularly on the east path to the summit after rain, but views definitely worth it. Recommended

β β β β β The Diamond Lake Conservation Area and Rocky Mountain peak is a great alternative to the Roy's Peak hike if you're pressed for time and energy. The views over Lake Wanaka and Mt Aspiring are still pretty impressive and the elevation gain is half that of Roys Peak, meaning you can do the 7km return hike easily in 2-3 hours.
The trailhead is 18.5km west of Lake Wanaka on the Mt Aspiring road. The walk to Diamond Lake takes around 10 minutes and from there the hike has 2 loops - a lower loop that takes in the Lake Wanaka viewpoint and an upper loop that climbs to the top of Rocky Mountain and gives views of the southern alps and Mt Aspiring. Think of it as a figure 8. The best views of the lake come from taking the eastern side of the loop (the right as you look up the mountain). The eastern side is more exposed and the upper loop has some steep sections. The western side is more forested and can be slippery if wet. I'd recommend taking the eastern side up and the western side down.

β β β β β Make the time to drive here & just look at the mirror lake view of the Mountains.
If you are fit then go up the steps to the look out but it will take you some time & a lot of huff & puff as its well over 100 steps ?

β β β β β Great hike. We did the loop and it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Great for littlies. Wet, but not too wet. Good views of the snowy mountains and mostly good afternoon sun. Have fun.

β β β β β Lovely spot for a walk with trails for all abilities and fitness levels. Take an easy stroll around the lake and enjoy the stillness of the water and the bird life, head up to the viewpoint to enjoy a birdseye view of Diamond Lake and stunning vistas of Lake Wanaka, Glendhu Bay and the surrounding mountains or head right up the top to the summit of Rocky Mountain for 360Β° panoramic views of the surrounding area. An excellent destination for a day walk while in the area.
