You have to see this mount if you are in New Plymouth or travelling down this area. It's such a beautiful site to see. The mountain is gorgeous. You can even see it on the way in when driving towards it. It is a little windy when you go up. There is a cute Cafe on the way up to the mount. Definitely worth the drive and view

If you are in the area, doing the Goblin Forest is a must! Astounding vegetation, looks like something out of a fairy tale. Even if you are not fit, take a wander in and just breathe in the crisp, clean air. Options for short or longer tracks. And when you're finished, there's a cafe in the parking lot. (Where the Enchanted Walk begins)

To me Egmont Forest is one of the best forests in the North Island that we've visited so far. This time we went up to the eastern side of Mt. Taranaki (Egmont) and took a short walk through the Enchanted Forest. After a while, we found out that we were walking on a narrow track which was more suitable for experienced hikers. So we stopped and walked back to the Stratford Plateau carpark. Next time we'll get somebody to drop us off from the Stratford Plateau and we'll walk one-way to Dawson Falls Visitors Centre. You need waterproof hiking boot to walk these tracks.

Phew! After the climb from Dawson's Falls you emerged hot and flustered to...... a large carpark with toilets, and an amazing view of the base of Mt Taranaki, a fantastic view also over Egmont Forest from a great viewing platform, well worth the climb up or drive if you find the route.

This is a dense example of New Zealand native bush. It's so lush and thick you'd never walk through it without a machete! The day was wild and we couldn't see the top of Taranaki/Egmont but it was still magical. Even the drive up to the top of the road is worth the whole visit! However, once you're up there, the air is chill and the views are great. We returned before sunrise the next day to capture that on film (yes, film!) although I also had a digital camera.
