So sad Kat. That you would think that this was appropriate. How about looking at it from a moral position rather than the "world has gotten far too PC". Nowadays it is also abhorrent to take a selfie within what was once concentration camps as well. Did you know that? Maybe walk a mile in someone else's shoes. You need some education - you appear to be stuck in another time.

Pleased you are still selling Golliwogs. They are not offensive. No more so than Dutch, Maori, Russian, and all the other dolls in the world.

Racism is racism regardless of what white people think. White people are the least knowledgeable on the subject of the racism they commit. Those dolls are a cheap, pathetic excuse for a wholesome childhood item.

How sad that people are giving this shop a one star based on the sale of Golliwogs. I am giving them a 5 star based on service, Artistic designs and fabulous clothing selection. My opinion of the dolls has nothing to do with the excellent service I received.

Havn't been to Waiheke for 20+ years, but on the TO DO list to get a Golliwog or 2!! Love it had one as a kid, can't see anything racist in them, they are a doll after all. PC BS gone mad. Stick to your guns and don't back down with the s..t stirring trolls. SB needs a history lesson on where Golliwogs originated. Look in the mirror SB and you will see the racist staring back at you!

Am appalled that the owner thinks it’s okay to sell offensive dolls that mock people. That’s why the African American tourists were shocked. Those dolls do not represent chinmey sweepers they were designed to mock the African Americans. Will not shop there

I bought a beautiful gift card for my daughter in Escapade, and then foolishly left it on bench on the high street. When I went back it was gone (no surprise there really) and I went back to the shop, just on the off chance that someone may have handed it in. They hadn't. I went to buy another card to replace it and the owner gifted this to me. It wasn't about the cost of the card, but to me it showed a really generous gesture that wasn't at all expected! Thank you Escapade, lovely to receive such an act of kindness ?

Nope, selling golliwogs is racist and unacceptable. If you have to 'get in very quick to only black Americans' so they can 'understand it' when you see the look on their faces as the owner stated in the newspaper article, then surely it should be blatently obvious how deeply offensive these things are. The owner's attitude is one of entitled, white privilege and a willful ignorance of what golliwogs actually represent. Utterly disgraceful. I can only hope that tourists or anyone else will choose to spend their money elsewhere. And Robert Q you're also a moron.
