★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Made the short detour to Blackball from greymouth and so pleased I did the drive in.
Is nice and scenic and the blackball township is so cool, we bought some world famous salami and a few different variety sausages that I can’t wait to devour, then of course you have to go into the blackball Hilton for a bite or drink, absolutely lovely place and such kind service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was my first visit to blackball on the Westcoast of the South Island
Great small town pub very welcoming friendly staff
Nice beer garden out the back
Lots of history and memorabilia on the walls of the bar inside
This is the town where the New Zealand Labour party started
Great bowl of chips
Large basket of chips fed 4 people
My friend got a flat white coffee which he said was excellent
I definitely plan to return soon
A big thanks to the locals and staff for your warm welcome and hospitality
I even purchased one of their t-shirts
Here is a photo of my friends and I in the beer garden
I am the fellow in the hat

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First stay here on a car rally. Tavern history very interesting, friendly staff, lovely food. Only thing that let it down for us was our room, which wasn't clean sadly, pity. Would eat here again but not stay.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful place to stop for a cold beverage after a days sightseeing. A few local characters and visible history on the walls and building. Special appreciation for the efforts of our forefathers that worked the area to make a living, as well as a very somber visit to the family memorial of the Pike River 29. God bless you all and your families.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Delicious food and very reasonable prices. The food is tasty and simple and exactly what you want from a pub after some time exploring the tracks in the area. Great service. Love all the quirky signs on the wall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Provided you aren't expecting modern 5 star luxury this place will blow you away. A great place to stay full of history and character. Comfortable, clean rooms in a grand old hotel. The food is high end pub food. Stayed here the night before departure for the Paparoa trail and it has everything you need, plus they do packed lunches for the trail. Met some cool local characters at the bar. Will definitely be back!
