★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Basic, its got everything but definitely not 5 star. They are aiming for a family, backpacker camping ground and are achieving it. Still very much a work in progress.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This experience was rather disappointing. The camp ground was very full and facilities were inadequate. People had to line up to wash their dishes with only 2 sinks for the entire camp. Only 2 showers in main building. We wont be returning. It was not value for money compared to other camps.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Actually we begged out and went elsewhere. We needed a power site and it was all very hideyhi, with vans and campervans packed in on hard stands. Different if not reliant on power, there would be plenty of space.. Nice camp just a shame the power sites are so awful, it's a big camp so why poke as many people into the one small area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When they say it's possibly the best camping ground in the country they're not jokeing this place is amazing. We could bring our dog and she had room to be a dog! Also the pizza oven is a brilliant activity. Also they have bases and toppings, witch are in my opinion reasonably priced considering the supermarket is a long way away!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful setting by the pretty rivermouth and beachfront, with beautiful native bush behind it and the sounds of bellbirds singing. The sites were thoughtfully planned and planted for privacy, with future upgrades posted for guests to see. Would definitely recommend staying here to enjoy this lovely part of New Zealand!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed here for 2 nights in one of the private cabins, so can't say about the main camp ground, but the cabin was first class, very clean and tidy with amazing views of the ocean. Bring your bug spray tho, you'll need it.

Gentle Annie is a lovely place. But,...
We felt, close to $80 for a powered site, 2 nights, 2 adults was more than any other place we had stayed with similar facilities.
We didnt use the outdoor area, cafe or pizza oven, as we noted they were very crowded always.
We liked ( because of covid) to stsy in our bubble. Noted not alot of socisl distancing going on.
The washing machine is great, but you need more!! Seriously, its nice its free and all, but when you have people NOT using the quick wash, and your 5th in the queue its a very long wait.
You need more sinks in the kitchen. 2 sinks fir the entire camp. Thankfully our caravan was fully equipped and we didnt need to use it. But Ew, those T-towels, please get rid of them, so unhygenic in todays covid world. Lots of people using the one towel.
Its a nice little camp, and lots of options for those that fish, and swim, we enjoyed those activities, as well as the walk from camp up to the bluff, through the maze.
The onsite takeaways were a bonus. It was nice to have that as a treat. Cafe food looked good from a glance. The cafe itself is a great idea made from the old cow shed. Love the pond in the middle of it.
The girl who spent ages helping me choose a T shirt, thank you for taking the time, really appreciated it.
