★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We came here on our last night on the Barrier as a bit of a treat and it did not disappoint! The staff were a tad reserved at first but warmed up pretty quickly and the service was good. We ordered scallops starter, the fish and eye fillet steak mains and the cheesecake dessert. It was pumpkin spice and ginernut flavour with chantilly cream and believe me I know it sounds a tad out there but gods above it was one of the BEST things I have ever put in my mouth. The wine list, which we didnt quite get through but made a respectable dent in, was an absolute delight. Tears were shed in the car on the way home over that dessert. We can't wait to come back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The view from our room and deck was exactly as we imagined Great Barrier Island to look. Beautiful. Room was really clean with a comfortable and large bed , well equipped for self catering, not that we did that as the dinners were really good. Plenty of books to read, games to play and others to talk to from all over NZ. Hosts were fun and welcoming. Highly recommend staying here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome location with great views, especially for sunsets. We stayed in 4 of the lodges and it worked great for the 14 of us who were here. The kayak hire was great, and the water by the lodge was nice and fairly flat, so super easy to kayak on. The restaurant was super busy each night, so if you are going to go definitely book.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We done an overnight fishing trip to Great Barrier Island taking our own boat. It was our first time. Jason and his staff were so welcoming and made it so easy for us. We called Jason as we arrived to the wharf, he came and picked us up, off loaded our stuff from our boat and dropped us at the lodge (From the wharf to lodge is only about 300m walk) We tied our boat to a moaring and was picked up by their boat. . The next morning we were dropped off to get our boat and refueled at the wharf.
We will definitely be back again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great Barrier Island can seem like a world away for Aucklanders. A shame, as this is one of the greatest places on Earth. A 30 minute flight to Claris and only 15 mins to the Resort and stunning Whangaparapara Harbour. Tidy rooms, beautiful hosts and a "just enjoy life" attitude made our 7 days incredible. More scenic walks and rivers than you can poke a stick at. Get here.. you are already missing out!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a such a wonderful stay at the Great Barrier lodge with three generations of our family (4 years to 81 years of age!). What an absolutely stunning location. The accomodation itself is so comfortable and has everything a family needs for a great holiday. The owners and staff do a fantastic job, they have a perfect balance between helpful and accomodating but also allowing guests their own personal space. A perfect stay.

The two families that made the trip have not been able to stop sharing stories of how wonderful this holiday was. Thanks to your team for all the onsite help, advice on where to go, and for allowing us access to the Great Barrier Lodge facilities and all the extras. We know that Great Barrier Island is a special place... but your team have made it even better and exceeded our expectations. You have set the bar really high for other lodges on the islands. As new owners we wish you all the best and... hopefully we will see you soon.
