Upcycled DIY pencil holder
What is upcycling?
Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality, such as artistic value or environmental value.
You will need:
Can
Paper
Scissor
Glue gun and glue stick
Pencil
Ruler
Decorations of your choice
Step 1: Ask your parents or an older sibling to help you to prepare your can that it is safe. (Make sure there are no sharp edges).
Step 2: Measure how much paper you will need and draw a pencil line to mark.
Step 3: Now use your scissor to cut off the paper.
Step 4: Glue your paper on the tin using your glue gun. (Please ask your parents for assistance).
Step 5: Now you can start gluing on your decorations.
I used some small pencil crayons, a broken sharpener, some wooden letters and a dried up marker.
Step 6: Now your pencil holder is complete. Fill up your holder so you are prepared for the next activity.
Have fun.
This activity is brilliant for the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lynda, Marianne, Ruby, Sue, Kirsty, Paris, Rachel, Tillo, Charlotte, Steve and anyone else I may have forgotten (sorry) are an amazing team! The work they do at Gulf Harbour Preschool is amazing, and we are so grateful to have found them.
We moved to the area about six months ago, and had to move my (almost) four year old son from a preschool we absolutely loved, so we were nervous about him starting afresh. I visited a couple of preschools in the area, and GHP had that cosy, warm, family-friendly feel from the very start, and I couldn't imagine having sent him anywhere else in comparison.
The wonderful, caring, supportive and creative team of teachers here have done such a magnificent job at helping our son transition and go from strength to strength here. The learning the kids have the opportunity to take part in is incredible. Some of the facts he comes home with blow my mind. The art and music they get involved with is awesome. The expectations for behaviour and rules that the children know they must follow set wonderful boundaries that contribute to a happy, well behaved group of children, both within the preschool, but also I feel flows onto their home life too.
The GHP team have been so respectful and accommodating of my son's dietary needs (gluten free, grain free, dairy free and predominantly sugar free too), which I am particularly appreciative of, as this is a source of anxiety for me. We are so thankful to this hard-working team of amazing people, and couldn't recommend this preschool more (hence me taking the time to ramble on in this review).
As soon as you walk in the door here, you are blown away by how colourful, fun and magical the spaces are. It reminds me of my old school kindy/preschool that I went to, which I have really fond memories of. We will be sending our daughter here as well when she turns three, and consider our family to be exceptionally lucky to have access to such wonderful childhood education and care here. Love your work GHP!
