β β β β β Cute store with lovely service. A nice place to wander through if you are looking for gifts (especially Aotearoa made things) or a treat for yourself. The jewellery cabinet has some truly gorgeous stuff in there.

β β β β β LOVE LOVE LOVE Hapa!!!
Every time I go to Hapa at The Tannery I just want to buy everything. It's all so beautifully set out, and there's such a great mix of quirky, cute and creative products.
I bought several Christmas gifts there this year, right from our $20 family Secret Santa present, through to a beautiful piece of art for my partner.
Maurz has such a wealth of knowledge and she and her team are so helpful!

β β β β β I usually don't leave reviews, I don't believe I've ever left a review for anything, but my treatment in HAPA today was enough to compel me to do so. I was looking for a 50th birthday gift when the woman behind the counter said to me, "You should have on a mask". As someone who does not have an noticeable physical disability, this remark is unfortunately not unusual (even though I am usually asked in a much more polite, non accusing manner). However my usual "oh, no, I have a medical exemption" response was not enough in this instance as I was then told "you should wear it so people can see it", to which I replied "No, well legally I don't have to, it's actually a violation of my private medical information." To which this woman dismissed my presence with, "Ok, yep, off you go." Whilst giving me a dead stare. Not only was this little episode humiliating, but it was rude, unprofessional and quite shocking, especially n front of my 4 year old child. For an elderly lady to treat another human in such an unceremonious way was disheartening, and a sad, sad reminder of the slow and steady decline in the once beautiful, positive energy famously found in New Zealand.
I felt compelled to write this review as I sincerely hope the next person who walks in without a mask due to medical reasons is treated with a bit more respect than that of a stray dog. I want to point out I have absolutely no problem with showing my medical exemption upon being ASKED to do so. I carry one with me for this reason. I will not, however, unnecessarily have it on show for the entire world to see simply because it makes narrow minded people feel better. Living with a disability is difficult enough without having it displayed to every person who looks my way.
*** I shouldn't have to point out that 80% of disabilities are not visible. ***
Unfortunately HAPA is a shop I will not give my custom to any more, and I'm sure friends and family will feel the same after my experience today.

β β β β β Such a fantastic shop with SO much stuff! I went to Hapa to find something for Mum for her birthday, having no real idea, and ended up spoilt for choice. And with Christmas coming up, Hapa is definitely a great place to find gifts for everyone, not just Mums! They have a real focus on stocking locally made products, and brands from all over New Zealand. Did I mention Hapa has a massive range of gifts? And such variety! The store got busy while I was in, and the lovely lady behind the counter handled us all well, showed real interest and excellent customer service, even while under the pump. Definitely head down to Hapa, you're supporting a shop run by good people, supporting other good people.
