★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Hauroko Burn Hut. Access to this hut is by boat only and is the beginning of the Dusky track, A 12 bunk hut of the usual configuration of DOC huts. The sandflies here were absolutely horrendous - if fact one of the worst trips into Fiordland I've ever had with them. And we sat in the hut watching them folding their wings to squeeze throough the insect mesh on the windows. I would not have believed it had i not seen it.
This hut gets pretty hammered by boaties - just as the bottom Teal Bay hut does. Goot place to come. Hunting is ok. lots of swampy bits and some thick crappy bush.
