Amazing hut! It was my first overnight stay using a DOC hut and it exceeded my expectations. I should have done more research as there were some parts that I struggled with but in saying that I'm reasonably unfit. Was well worth the hike to reach such a beautiful destination. Walk a little bit further to the hot pools and you wont be disappointed.

Nice peaceful hut, getting super busy on weekend, but it has a beautiful riverside, and pretty nice make a stopover and enjoy time out of connection, and there are glowworms next to the bridge over night

Absolutely stunning, tramp in is quite difficult but with good fitness and knowledge should be ok

This is an amazing place to stay. Great facilities. Good to have gas cookers available inside the hut. Bring your own pots plates and cutlery. Awesome wood burner for winter. The walk in is not too difficult onky a coupld of steepish climbs. The walk to the hot springs takes about 40 minutes but worth the walk.

Very picturesque and peaceful. Nice getaway with no cell service. The hut sits next to the mohaka river with a waterfall leading into the river, the sound of this at nice is really nice and peaceful. The hut is well warmed and has lots of space with two rainwater sinks, two tables and 26 bunk beds. Worth the walk definitely.

Large serviced DOC hut situated in a picturesque little clearing beside the Mohaka River about 2-3 hrs walk in from the road end carpark on the Te Puia Trail. The hut has a large central kitchen area with steel topped benches and a log burner fire and bunks at either end with sleeping space for roughly 26 people. Saw Whio (Blue Duck) and rainbow trout in the river and plenty of other bird life in the native bush. Didn't see any deer but there was plenty of sign around and the undergrowth was well grazed. The track continues upstream to the Mangatainoka hot springs where there is a campsite and some excellent swimming and bathing options. Well worth the beautiful walk in.
