Health Based Building - Edgeware

Be Careful when buying from this company. We purchased the rain screen product which is exclusive to them, and they gave us a huge amount of very short pieces knowing we were going to use it in vertical strips like we had seen on their trade me listing. We purchased what we thought was enough 730Lm (69m2) for three walls of our one story house. We had only covered one and a half walls and realized we did not have enough long pieces. Then when we went to order more we were told we would have to buy another huge amount of short pieces. We had to reduce the number of walls we were using the product on, and still were short of long pieces to complete the first two walls. We required 40 x 2.7mtr pieces to finish the second wall, which equates to 108 linear meters approx. $925 worth. They have sent me a quote for $5613.74 and advised we must buy 657 linear meters due to "sustainability" of red beech to get these longer pieces. We still have 30m2 left in short pieces from our first purchase, even though we used a lot of the short pieces they gave us 41x 1mter pieces under two windows and .20 above the windows as well as 11 x 1.1 meter pieces under another window and 26 x 1.88 under another window. We only had 109 long pieces out of the first order, which we were never given a tally for. As you can see from the Tally picture they gave us when we requested a quote for more, this company makes you buy a very high percentage of short pieces. If we realized at the beginning we would have to buy so much more we would have chosen a different timber. They have this timber exclusively in Christchurch, so we cannot complete our project with this timber variety unless we buy it from them. At this point we are looking at either matching the timber as best we can with another variety, or removing it from the second wall. Its a shame as the product looks great, but is very very expensive to apply it vertically in long strips. I did contact the director of the company Casey Thompson, but he said he agreed with his staff that we must purchase all this wood even though we dont need it. See picture of tally sheet. You can buy other timber varieties to achieve the same vertical look, and there are other timber mills that will let you buy it close the lengths you require. It does not seem very sustainable to have to buy 3-4 times the amount of timber required........... It seems they are sustaining their bank balance.

Bought beech timber off this company, my deck cupped as the installation instructions are extraordinarily stringent. Best to deal with traditional decking products and not this product.

Shorted my order and would not supply the additional material. Took an hour and a half to pick up my order due to inexperienced fork lift driver. Product was nice but some pieces below grade, in addition to not supplying full order and making me pay for remainder. Since I did not measure 250 meters of board upon receipt I had no recourse. I see the owner of the business has responded with denials that I ever contacted them about the short order (I did contact them) and that I waited 90 minutes (I did wait that long). If they are unaware of these facts then it shows you how the business is run. If they are lying that shows something as well.

Just wanted to say a big thanks to the Health Based Building crew for being so helpful, they supplied me with all the materials I needed to finish my brand-new beech decking, all my neighbours are jealous because I now have the best looking deck on the street. I highly recommend using there Beech Decking Timber.
