About Helensville Museum
Came across this photo of Parakai in it’s heyday, taken by Whites Aviation. The baths are bottom right, a little to the left and up a bit, you can just see the top of the WW1 Memorial. Sadly the old

β β β β β The volunteers here were keen to show us round their museum which was distributed over four buildings. They were a mine of information and were keen to follow up our questions about people from the past by email. Great experience for us.

β β β β β The museum was very interesting, there was a lovely office lady whoβd seen us walk in she and popped her head out said βHelloβ and said we were welcome to joined the guided tour that had just started. So we joined in.
It was also good reason being, we were able to have a leisurely stroll around in middle of the tour. I saw a kind of cottage laid out with bedroom, kitchen. Iβm looking forward to returning because I missed part of tour so didnβt hear the story about it. Iβm guessing the back room was the formal parlour where they entertained visitors with tea and scones - or maybe Iβm getting to carried away. I would have to say 1800s has always been an era that Iβve always been interested in.
I thoroughly enjoyed the barn and all the bygone era tools of these pioneering families. I had purchased a couple of books β Voygeering menβ and a book about Women of pioneering families. So to pop into the museum was a must. I also met a lady whose family was a descendent of the Mcleods family - so it was extra special. The history of Helensville is very interesting. I was born and raised in West Auckland. The garden out front is lovely, and the ladies were very welcoming. Oh I shouldβve taken more photos, but these two items were the ones - I had no idea what they were.
