About Henderson Intermediate

Welcome to Henderson Intermediate School. Our School Values underpin everything that we do. By the end of Year 8 we want all our students to be respectful, responsible, prepared and proud! We are passionate about learning in the middle years.

It is at this time that children go through the second most significant time in their lives socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. This is when they establish their attitudes and values for the rest of their lives. Intermediate Schools are middle schools. They are not primary and they are not secondary.

At Henderson Intermediate School, we cater for the unique age and stage that your children are at. These special young adults need to be in an environment that is safe and will allow them to grow.

Teachers at Henderson Intermediate are negotiators, skilled behaviour managers. Teaching and learning programmes are designed to specially cater for the individual learning needs of your children. This is the last chance they have to become confident readers and writers, before they go to College. Numeracy skills need to be well embedded too. Students are given a wide range of learning activities and extra-curricular opportunities. At Henderson Intermediate School students flourish and grow!

So many bullies at this school, and the school does so little about it, they tell you what you wana hear to be honest, and their saying is (where students flourish and grow).

Many of the Maori and Pasifican students were racist towards Asian students. They assume your nationality and say ni hao to any Asian student they see. I wouldn't say hi in a different language to someone unless I knew their nationality because personally I considered it very racist hearing ni hao mostly every day when I am not Chinese. It is disappointing as even a teacher has assumed that someone was chinese and said ni hao when they weren't. Some pupils have also blocked my path when they could see I was obviously trying to get past them and they just do these unnecessary actions to upset and annoy people. Aside from that many of the teachers seem pretty good but I think the school fails to recognise and address how some races/nationalities are treated unequally by some students so maybe it would benefit the school if students were taught the universal declaration of human rights.

This is the very first school I’ve been to that don’t let you drive in to drop off the enrolment form. The parking outside the school are very limited. Also there were cars parked on the side road so you are literally stuck where you can’t even drive out. I even spoke to the teacher who was the traffic warden at that time that I just need to drop off the forms she said I’ve to sit in the car till the car in front moves out of the way. That wasn’t helpful when she could’ve told the drivers in front to move because that was the road to drive out it wasn’t a carpark. They teach children to be respectful and she literally raised her voice to me saying WHAT SHOULD I DO. I was looking forward to enroll my child there but because the way she spoke to me made me change my mind. She could’ve come to a solution but instead acted immature. If a teacher is not respectful towards others how can she teach or be respectful towards my child. I did called the office straight away as I was so disappointed and upset.

overall it wasnt a bad school, i missed out on majority of my first year though due to covid. in year 7 i did have to change classes around term 3 because of my teacher Miss Annabell and the students in that class. Miss Annabell was probably one of my least favourite teachers, she didnt respect my personal boundaries whatsoever, i would get so upset and avoid school for weeks whenever i could just to stop going to her class. i would have meltdowns and embarras myself infront of my classmates because of her, and once the students found out all my weaknesses that just make me the laughingstock of the class. Thankfully i moved classes later in the year though. Another thing is the students are rather racist, and it isnt even the white people that are the racist ones. Majority of the students in tupu ma ola were extremely racist towards students that wernt like them. year 8 was rather easy, i had a bit of a problem with attending gym but other than that it was alot easier than the previous year. personally i think its really up to personal choice if you want to send your kids here, just be aware of these few things haha
