Concerts here are among the best church music events in Auckland but aren't widely advertised.
The mix of old and new architecture is very uncommon. The newly built Selwyn chapel has a gold leaf ceiling that makes it into an attractive function space. The new Cathedral organ, substantially funded by Auckland ratepayers, is considered the finest 21st century in NZ. The stained glass is the most impressive 20th century glass art in any NZ building but somewhat cramped by the low roof on each side of the nave.
The Cathedral was not giving access to St Mary's when I visited.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s more like a community hall now. The neo gothic design makes it distinguished from other rather older churches in Auckland. The massive use of wood is a kiwi style. The glass works are amazing. I did an epic wedding here 8 years ago. It’s a prize giving venue for ACG Parnell.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was quite disappointed and I think it’s overrated. It’s a recent building (for a cathedral) and there is not much history. You don’t have the same feeling you can have when you enter cathedrals you can find in Europe. I don’t suggest to visit it if you come from far and don’t have much time. However, I enjoyed the stained glass windows.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Since I performed here, I rehearsed here with time allowed to look inside the building. The stained glass windows are truly so majestic to look at! The interior also has a really nice design (props to the architecture for this!)
