Kai Whakapai is a Wanaka institution! You really can't miss it- right on the lakefront and always bubbling with locals and their dogs. The food is excellent, I really enjoy their Benedicts and incredible cheese scones for breakfast. My personal favorite is the feta hashcakes with cold smoked salmon, so good. They've also got a great lunch and dinner menu, I recently tried their bao buns which were amazing, and the pizza is also very good. In the afternoon they have a good selection of beer, and of course their coffee is always fantastic! If seating looks busy outside, you can always try their upstairs- don't miss this place!

I went here two days in a row whilst on holiday. It was a fantastic time out for each one with great service. It was efficient both my long black and coconut flat white were on point. Thank you for adding to the great time in Wanaka.

Came here after waking up at sunrise to climb to Roy's Peak. Had some well deserved morning beers and a delicious spicy meaty pizza in the quiet upstairs section soaked in sunlight. Great and friendly service too!!

We came here twice in one day and the music was epic both times. Great selection of beers and they have a summer cocktail menu which includes aperol spritz, mimosas, Pimm's and an elderflower spritz. If you can get an outdoor table it's a great little spot along the waterfront with the hustle and bustle of everything going by. Good option if you're looking for somewhere to go for a drink!

So glad we stumbled upon this place! Which, is pretty easy to do as it's on the Wanaka lakefront. We had eggs benedict with salmon and a big breakfast. Can't go wrong with either! The staff was friendly, service was great, and we loved the coffees! Probably some of the best coffees we had whilst road-tripping around the area. I ordered a flat white with oat milk and became addicted. It was perfectly creamy with a nice balance between the oat milk and coffee. My partner enjoyed getting an iced Americano with cream. Definitely recommend.

So sorely disappointed with paying $25 for the worst breakfast I have had in a long while. I was surprised to see that β€œroast cauliflower hash” was curried cauliflower and fried lumps of potato. The poached eggs were so hard that they bounced when I rolled it off the bread. The open steak sandwich that was meant to be made with ribeye steak but it was just pure gristle. We also noticed that locals were served long before us. I appreciate that you want to look after people that are likely to come back well but don’t do it at the detriment of tourists.

The kai here is fab. Sat upstairs and while busy, all the food was served without hassles. Friendly and efficient staff. Good, fresh food…..guys, please keep it up. Recommended.
