About Karamu Trail Track
The farm is owned by David Smith who was born on the property. He is a fourth generation descendant of the Smith Family after whom Smith Road was named. The original 100 acre Smith farm was expanded to include neighbouring properties by David. It is also a working dairy farm.
David and his four sons were keen trail bike riders which led to the original Karamu Trail Track being created on the farm in the mid 1980′s as an off-road trail bike track. It was open once a month to the public for trail rides until the mid 1990’s.
In later years David and his sons wanted new adventures, parked up their trail bikes and bought a small collection of horses. After a couple of years learning to ride and break in horses David decided to start running horse trekking on the farm. Since 2001 the tracks have been used and enjoyed by thousands of people who have come on horse rides with us.
The tracks meander around hundreds of acres of hills and bush and every year David makes some new tracks to keep it interesting.

β β β β β Absolutely brilliant. I came here for my granddaughters birthday, 4 of her friends and myself. There were a number of times one of my girls and i were frightened but the guide had the skills to calm us down. There views were stunning and the horses were scary but well behaved... it was just me. The staff were friendly and informative. I definitely would be back and recommend this horse trek if you want to have an hour or so of enjoyment! Thank you so much to the staff of Karamu Trek!!!

β β β β β Was a great experience at this farm stay and exploring the trail. We we're a group of 12 who spent the whole weekend here, we went for free kayaking on the small lake within the property, enjoyed time with the horses, went for walks and glowworms at midnight as well. The house had all the basic amenities needed and the hosts we're very warm and nice.

β β β β β Highly recommend, my daughters first time near and riding a horse, an experience she absolutely loved! , our guides Belinda, Wendy and Rebekah were amazing,! Matched our horses suited to each rider, knew all the horses personalities. Best guides to spend a 2hr trek with,they praised the horses throughout the trek, to add Supportive and really reassuring with all riders.
The trek was up and down steep hills, breathtaking views. 1 or 2 hour treks your choice. Either trek is worth every minute!

β β β β β Absolutely loved the trail ride. We went on a 2-hour ride, the two older kids were initially a bit scared but quickly got over it. I am an experienced rider and I loved the level of education the horses have, they are responsive and quiet. The track is up and down hill, very interesting with stunning views. All in all it was awesome and so much fun. We will never forget this day. Thank you so much and I can only highly recommend it. The price is unbeatable.

β β β β β The best experience I've ever had trail riding! The staff were incredible and kind and very accommodating to my disabilities. The views were awesome too! Oh and the price is so cheap compared to a lot of places.

β β β β β We had a great day. My partner is an absolute beginner and got a real nice horse on which he felt really confident.
I ride horses all my life and got one of their best horses (thank you for that, I'm totally in love with her). The guides are kind, friendly and skilled.
Gave me the best compliments in years 1. You're impressive with her and 2. I'll race ya
Lost this time but next time we'll race, I'll win lol.
So obviously I had the best track ever, thank you!!!

β β β β β My sister told us about this AMAZING horse riding venue and so we decided to take our siblings Miss Four & Five out there. And I tell you, the kids and I had an absolute BLAST.
As a novice around horses, I must admit I was nervous walking my nieces around the area (missed the wonderful trek) but surprisingly the horses were well behaved and followed.
I 1000% RECOMMEND this activity!!!!
