The Most Popular destination is the Beach at Shallow Bay Lake Manapouri which is about one hours walk from the Rainbow Reach Bridge via the Spirit Lake Wetlands Viewing Area.
The Trail Head area has a Bus Shelter and Basic Toilets as well as a Car Park.
there is a rough track that can be followed down the River Bank to the Balloon Loop Road past the sight of the First Sheep Station built in the Western Southland Region.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Gorgeous starting point for the Kaplar track, the river and the bridge itself is a scenic attraction. There's toilet facility and picnic tables to start with. But do watch out for your personal belongings if you park your car here, there has been break ins reported.
