About Kidstown
Children’s well being and development is at the HEART of everything we do !
This guiding principle sits alongside our philosophy and together these five statements guide the environment and the backdrop for our children’s care, learning and exploration.
- Teachers nurture te tamaiti with aroha and manaaki to grow their maia (courage), mana and knowledge.
- We build caring and meaningful relationships with our children, parents, and our whΔnau.
- Our teachers are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable and love each child for who they are
- The natural environment plays an integral part in our children’s learning so we become guardians of our native environment and surroundings.
- Natural heritage is at the heart of our children’s learning and links are made to our centre pepeha with regular walks in our local community and to our maunga.
Our teachers facilitate our children’s learning and development through thoughtful and intentional teaching. They are all very approachable and work closely with our families. Our teachers foster lifelong learning skills and resilience that will equip tamariki for their future learning journey when they transition from early childhood education to primary school and beyond.
At Kidstown the natural world plays an integral part in our children’s learning, and our tamariki become kaitiaki (guardians) of our native environment and surroundings. The tamariki take an active part in caring for their own special place; showing respect and aroha for PapatΕ«Δnuku and it’s living creatures. Children love to grow their own food and participate in the harvest and food preparation process. We have our own Kidstown animals, geckos, turtles, rabbits and frogs, which are cared for by the children. Through these experiences, our tamariki are learning to show responsibility, empathy, independence, consideration for others and how to pursue social justice.
Trips outside the centre are a very important part of our programme. On a regular basis the children are taken for walks up Mt wellington to extend their science, maths and physical activities. The children also regularly visit the local Bunnings store to purchase material they need for construction or nature play. Regular walks to the train station is another popular outing. All are within 500m of our centre.

β β β β β I have worked with Kidstown for more than two years as a teacher and I really appreciate the positive environment it creates for the kids and for the whanau. My daughter Manroop was also part of this beautiful and resourceful centre. She enjoyed the best years of her life at Kidstown. I like the way the centre connects the children with the local community through walks to Bunnings, train station, mountain and surrounding areas. Teachers are so kind, encouraging and loving towards the needs and learning of each child.

β β β β β Kidstown is an incredible childcare centre. I have two girls, my youngest still attends and my older daughter has just left to start school. They both moved to Kidstown from another centre in the area, and we have been so spoilt with the quality of teachers throughout their time at Kidstown. Kidstown has allowed the girls to engage with the local community through regular off site trips up Mt Wellington, to the train station, to the zoo, Bunnings and other exciting places. We always feel welcome and part of a larger Kidstown family when there! Thanks Kidstown for giving our girls the greatest start in their early years of education.

β β β β β My daughter attended Kidstown from 8 months old until 20 months. We loved Kidstown so much and wouldnβt have left if we werenβt moving cities. The homely environment and the primary caregiving made it a home away from home for my daughter. The teachers are lovely and the manager and hands-on owner are very easy to communicate with and approachable. Would highly recommend this centre!

β β β β β Kidstown! An amazing early child centre. The staff care. They put the children first and the learning is first hand,
My daughter was there for four years. We have absolutely no regrets. Kidstown provides a safe, nurturing, caring environment. Kidstown is like a family. They are strong in Te Reo and learning about the environment around them. They have strong values to grow the whole child. I would highly recommend Kidstown to anyone who is looking for somewhere grow their child's development.

β β β β β Only amazing things to say about Kidstown. Both of our children absolutely loved their time there, and received such a high level of support, encouragement and genuine care.
We love how they get to go for adventures up the Mountain and around the neighbourhood, learn how to look after the many pet animals onsite, and grow and harvest vegetables and cook with those in the kitchen.
A wonderful place for children to learn and develop. Would not hesitate to recommend Kidstown.
