About Kiwi Blade Knives
Our most commonly used steels are:
N690 Stainless Steel: A sharp high carbon cobalt stainless steel - best for kitchen knives but a good option for all knives. It's a great, durable all round steel for knife making
01 Tool Steel: High carbon tool steel - wonderfully sharp but you need to be diligent in looking after it (i.e washing and oiling it after use). Due to the high carbon content in this steel you can create a forced patina pattern on the blade
We often use 01 Tool Steel for filleting knives, hunting knives and long bladed carving/bbq knives and thin gyuto type blades.
Sleipner Steel: Thick spined, sturdy and sharp, this steel packs a punch. We use it most often for cleavers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! Willie is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his craft and it was amazing to learn so much in the knife making course. To have the chance to draw, cut, shape and create a one of a kind knife was phenomenal. Willies constant support, precision and banter was second to none. Where to start on the food!! Angela had everything and more prepared beautifully and was fantastic in assisting in the finer details of the knife making. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone, you will not regret!

Starting the beginning of the day with no knowledge of knife making and a piece of paper, ending the day with a completed knife. Fun throughout the day, good yarns from Willie and great food from Ange. Recommend to all. Also we've bought 3 knives from Willie in the past 6 months. One from the Mangawhai markets for a gift, and two custom made as wedding presents - which the recipients were very, very happy with. So if you're in need of a new knife, a fun day out or a present Kiwi Blades is the place to go!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our bridal party got together to do a one-day course and had an absolute blast with Willie and Angela. The day was truly fantastic and Angela's food is worth the visit on its own! Willie is passionate about his craft and it was contagious to be around. Very experienced knife maker, dedicated teacher and everyone left with a giant smile ear to ear with their creation in hand. High quality results, you will leave with a heart full of a joy and a very full stomach.

They made cooking knives for our son who is a competition steak cook, and the craftmanship and attention to detail was second to none. The knives we have bought from KBK's will last a lifetime and more. You don't see quality like this everyday. Definitely recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I cannot recommend Willie and Angela enough if you have knife making or repair needs. After a house fire, I retrieved a 50 year old kitchen knife with significant memories from the ashes, and an 80 year old steel, and some of the old Matai floor board. Willie and Angela immediately embraced the importance of these items to our family, and got to work. Incredibly responsive, talented, and tuned into what I was trying to achieve. If you are reading this review, stop. Call them. Don't look any further, or worse-still buy a boring knife.
