★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you dreamt of, but never found, total isolation, bush walks, hill walks, the sound of waterfalls and local fauna (nothing man-made except your own), all within around half an hour of Whangarei, then you've never stayed at Komanawa Retreat.
Its not called a "retreat" for nothing; after a delightfully warm greeting from our hosts, Susie and Jim, and an exciting tour of their 400 acres of hill and vale bush, our life for the next 4 days settled into silence and tranquility.
By day, there was lazing on the deck, bush walks, including their amazing waterfall pool. At night we experienced starlight spas and the call of morepork .
It took a day to get into the right mind space and leave work behind but after that there was nature and peace and an uncluttered mind.
Jim and Susie were perfect hosts, leaving us to our private cottage but always happy to chat if you came by their place.
Truly a dream break away - to be repeated sometime soon to remind us what real peace is.
