★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely stunning lake with a snowy mountain backdrop and crystal clear water. A must-visit on a trip to south island, especially as there is easy access to the water front but not too surrounded by a town compared to other lakes. Unfortunately we were not there while the lupines were blooming but it was still phenomenal. A great spot for daytime, sunset, and night photography.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It almost doesn't matter what this area is like with a lake this beautiful, despite this largely just being a map spot of gravel and rocks. Speaking of, there cairns, cairns, rock cairns everywhere and I can see why when stacking rocks in front of this turquoise beauty is very soothing. Saw a few people coming out here to meditate too. At night the swarm of bugs can come out but it's overall not too bad. Perfect place for the still sunset too

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful turquoise tones of the icy waters, with views of snow-capped mountains changing as you walk around the lake. Folllow the walking and cycling tracks around the lake - these trails are easy access and suitable for all abilities. The hike up the walkway for St John's observatory requires a moderate level of fitness. Take water, sunblock, and a sunhat! Favourite views on a chilly day are from the hot pools at Tekapo Springs.
