β β β β β I was totally discriminated and had most of my rights crushed by fully judgemental "professionals". From the receptionist and high above I find this service totally hypocritical and unprofessional.

β β β β β Tried to get my partner mental health support for a recent severe diagnosis. Referred by a GP, we got a call from the rudest medical receptionist ever encountered. Dismissive, aggressive, refusal to help, refusal to give her name.

β β β β β They're trying their best but they are typically understaffed and under-resourced. I believe there's only three psychologists for the entire catchment area, and I don't think any of them are full time. Some staff can be dismissive and sometimes it does feel like you have to fight to be heard. Some of them are trying though - they can help provide some good skills and refer you to other agencies and areas in the mental health system. It's definitely better than nothing, but it can take quite some time to actually get the help you need.
Some tips: if you want your diagnosis re-evaluated at any point as a client, you essentially have to present your case and explain why you believe you meet the diagnostic criteria.
Try not to miss too many appointments or you might get dropped from their books, even though that's often a sign of mental health deterioration.
You can request your records through the ADHB - there's a form online you can find via Google. I'd recommend doing this because I have heard of Manaaki House withholding diagnosis information.

β β β β β Iβve found that the receptionists are always super friendly - Iβve never had a bad experience with any staff, even when I was in a crisis and had to talk to someone that wasnt my regular. He already knew my record which made it extremely pleasant to talk to him
Thank you Manaaki!

β β β β β Was treated with the most disrespectful manners I have ever seen. I am absolutely disgusted by the receptionist and the medical professionals. All of my struggles were disregarded and made completely redundant and I was diagnosed with things that are completely out of what I was going to go and get help for. I would never EVER put myself back in that situation I feel so disgusted and horrified that people like that are looking after the mental health of that area and I believe that they need to be looked into. This is a disgrace to the mental health community and I hope no one ever has to deal with the trauma and hurt that I had to deal for and hour and a half of my day. DISGUSTED

β β β β β After several public health organizations, and private, Manaaki have offered me the best doctors, nurses, psychologists and group therapy Ive received. They are extremely LGBT friendly, especially for trans people.
There is a huge burden on the public health system for mental illness, and they do their absolute best to try and accommodate as many people as possible. While not one size fits all, with the resources they have, I feel they've surpassed even private health care facilities Ive seen. Extremely thankful :)
