About McNaughton Windows & Doors
Founded in 1937 by Jack McNaughton and soon joined by his two brothers Max and Noel, McNaughton Windows and Doors quickly became a leader of New Zealand’s timber window and door market.
โ
Uniquely, MJN McNaughton Ltd (Inc 1947) continues to trade as the same company incorporated all those years ago demonstrating an unwavering customer commitment.
โ
Through the years, the McNaughton philosophy has remained constant. Support the best people with the best equipment and never stop innovating.
โ
Initially the growth of McNaughton Windows & Doors was rapid on the back of winning timber window and door manufacturing contracts for Maori Affairs and State housing projects. The company proudly points to numerous examples of its windows and doors manufactured in the 1940’s and 50’s still operating, and with a ‘sand and paint’ will continue to look and function superbly for years to come.

โ โ โ โ โ Our experience with Antonio of McNaughton was not at all what we expected after the company came highly recommended as one of the few suppliers in NZ being able to build a door for our fire-place, custom-height of about 3m. Over all, bespoke finishes to our fire-place were obvious and required.
Main requirements was to avoid "warping". Meetings have been held on site for which we had our head-builder discussing all details and requirements (September 2020). Price was agreed to be about 2500.- NZD, only delivery, they would not install, so need builder to do that.
Finishing should be done by plasterer. 100% (!) deposit requested or else they would not start (says it all!).
After several reminders and two months delivery-time, the "door" was delivered to our house and we were shocked to see it was just a piece of cheap marine ply-wood, no metal-inserts to avoid warping, wrong thickness and cheap kitchen-hinges that were not qualified to hold a door that size in place.
We rejected that "door", that already warped before being installed (!) and plasterer refused to work with this cheap product.
Instead of sorting things out straight away, Mc Naughton took us for a month long ride: they wanted us to pay about 1000NZD for the
old "door" and would make a new, better one. Obviously we were not prepared to pay for a completely inferior product just to buy another one of them at full price - this is not what NZ consumer laws dictates!
Only after our builder stepped in and agreed to pay part of the damage (not really his fault), they promised to build a new door. This then took another roughly 4 months of delays and discussions during which our main living room could not be completed...
After a lot of pressure, door was installed by our builder in April - after many unprofessional discussions and many months delay - just for one single door!
Two stars only because at the end they somewhat delivered a (hopefully not warping) door, but customer-service and business ethics are not worth even half a star... - our opinion based on our experience with McNaughton: stay away!
