★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Honestly it's hard to believe how run down and hopeless this train service has become. waiting in the freezing cold for an hour at 8.06pm. Not a single employee to be found. Timetable been changed but not on internet. Trains always being replaced by buses. Hideous

the scale of bus drivers is a spectrum: some are so so lovely and warm and the other ones will drive like maniacs and you reach your destination wondering how you made it there alive
the buses in Paraparaumu are so weird looking?
bus replacements for trains are always in the most confusing locations, sometimes a 10 min walk away so obviously you miss it??
good call center but the schedule is so inconsistent, the call center says one time, the website another and then the sign at the bus stop a third, and then obviously the bus comes at a completely random time which doesn't match any of these
overall so disappointing

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Metlink buses are either 10 minutes early that you miss it or ten minutes late that you leave the bus stop thinking the bus isn’t coming anymore just for it to drive past you. Metlink website is also unreliable - live tracking tells you the bus is 5 minutes late so you leave according to the time just for it to come 2 minutes early as you’re walking to your stop…

20 minutes + there was no traffic it was mid day during the week day… 30 minute trip that took almost an hour

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are visiting Wellington forget the bus. Some buses you must pay cash others you cannot at all. They are consistently late and have had no bus from the airport to town for years. If I could give zero stars I would. Leadership should all be ashamed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent public transit in greater Wellington. I was in Wellington for a few days and made great use of their transit. Take bus #2 from the airport to the train station and then you can go anywhere! Rides are fairly frequently and most stops/stations have digital signs showing how far away they are. I'd recommend getting a snapper card, even for just a few days, as drivers often don't have any change for cash and snapper is cheaper. It is a bit more expensive than my home city Dunedin and the fare structure is quite complicated, I wish snapper was cross compatible with bee cards, but otherwise great service!
