Aroy Thai Eatery - Cuba Street - Te Aro
About Aroy Thai Eatery - Cuba Street
From humble beginnings of a family opening a Thai restaurant in Palmerston North in 1998, to opening the first AROY restaurant in 2008, we have been serving New Zealanders fresh and affordable Thai cuisine for decades. Our authentic recipes have been handed down for generations, and form the essence of our style of cuisine.
When I moved to Wellington as a student in 2005, I noticed there was a shortage of good, authentic Thai food outlets – and those that did exist were on the expensive side. Back in the 1990s, many Thai restaurants in New Zealand were fine-dining experiences with a price point to match. With limited Asian ingredients readily available, many of these restaurants would simply leave a lot of traditional Thai dishes off their menus. My mother and grandmother would always insist on making those traditional meals available by tweaking them as best they could with the ingredients available.

β β β β β I like the Aroy franchise and have been to several around NZ. This one was the most inferior (based on the meal I always order - pork belly with basil).
Normally I would rate this meal as a 5 but here it was not good. The pork was very thin and worst of all looked like the meat was old. Upon further inspection looked like it was cut then fried or deep fried. Anyway, it was totally different than normal and tasted a little different. The sauce was still OK but the pork belly pieces were not!
I hope the owner of the franchise looks into this because all the other shops I've been to have been perfect, just this one is not good.
I'd highly recommend Aroy restaurant chains but not this one. It should be a standard taste but unfortunately this shop has let your chain down.

β β β β β Love coming here for a quick meal! I'm a fan of the Roti bread and the chicken skewers. But I've been here with a bridal party and they had something yummy for all of us! So a great place to come in a group. Highly recommend!

β β β β β Great menu, fast service, and delicious food! Pictured here are the beef noodle (added egg), and dried noodles with duck. Love the portions, great colours, and simply vibrant ambiance. ?

β β β β β Skip the chicken with satay sauce. Tastes like a coconut curry. The rice dry and over cooked. We left it all on the plate.?

β β β β β Great cheerful uncomplicated Thai food. It's not 5 star cuisine but it's always tasty and quick.
I've been a fan for a few years but haven't been there in ages. So we went for all our favourites in one go: pad thai, fried chicken, tom yum and roti. Absolutely great and I look forward to going again.

β β β β β ΰΈΰΈ£ΰΉΰΈΰΈ’ΰΈ‘ΰΈ±ΰΉΰΈ’ Aroy Mai? (Is it delicious)
That is the question I ask when I step into Aroy Thai Eatery. After leaving Thailand for almost 4 years and as we have been living in that beautiful country for almost 19 years, we are all craving for some Thai cuisine.
We ordered the familiar dishes such as, Phad Thai, Phad See You, Fried pork with Bakchoi, Masaman Curry and deep fried crispy chicken skin. Plus, the famous Ice Tea with milk.
The service were average and the food is a little pricey. But we love the Fried pork with Bak Choi, Phad Thai, and Phad See You. The Thais are great with their stir Fried dishes. You can smell and taste the "wok hei" fragrance from the hot wok. There are a certain spice missing from the masaman curry and the Ice Tea with milk needs more milk. These may fool the kiwis or those not familiar with authentic Thai food but surely cannot fool me... hehehe.
I really hope that the management can read this review and make some improvements. We will still come back when we crave for some Phad Thai.
